A bit a bragging and proof we can come back and survive
I am 4.5 months out from an open partial. This Sunday I did my first sprint triathlon of the year and although a bit slower than last year (water choppy and it was blowing) I got 2nd in my age group. 8-). Yes there were more than 2 in my group (first question my husband asked). Thank you to all of you who gave me advice…

ipilimumab and nivolumab Updates
Been a while since I last posted but the bottom line is last CT Scan (About 3 weeks ago) showed some shrinkage, a little growth but that was on a site that had shrunk prior, elimination of a small nodule on lung, nothing has grown larger then when I first started program in Feb of 2014, and no new sites. Overall about a…

Inlyta working!
I got the news from my scans today. Shrinkage is some mets and stability in others. This is especially great since I left MDA feeling hopeless 5 months ago because I was told that the FDA approved drugs don't usually work on unclassified RCC. Well take that statistics. I guess I showed you! Off to party! Kathy

Mixed test results
I had an CT scan (without contrast) on 5/17/14 which showed a mass on my right kidney. My doctor sent me to get a renal US. The US came back with a solid appearing object on my right kidney. Another CT scan was done, with and without contrast. The results from the radiologist said the area was too small to determine…

Newly Diagnosed, Scheduled for surgery at USC Keck Medical Center and scared as heck
Im 44 was diagnosed with RCC in left kidney which they are having to do a Radical Nephrectomy since it is close to 7cm in size and in the center confined to the kidney inner walls. They said a partial wasn't avaiable because it was to close to the renal artery. I just want to know what to expect other than the phamplet…

Scan Results - Not as good as I hoped for
I know I posted last week about scan results and I didn't want to leave everyone hanging. Just got back from spending 4 days in Tampa (I am from NY) so I wanted to share the news of the scans that I received on Friday. My last scan in late February showed a stable disease, no growth, no spread. 98% of the cancer was gone…

Original CT scan shows mass, US shows mass, CT scan with and without contrast does not show mass...
I was taken to the ER with upper neck and arm pain. While in the ER, a CT scan was done on my abdomen to check my lungs and heart. The scan came back with a mass on my kidney. I've been diagnosed with a Bosniak II cyst and a simple cyst previously so my GP and I both assumed it was one of them that showed up again. Since…

Stage 1 recurrence?
Just was curious if anyone on this boat had ever been diagnosed with stage 1 RCC and ever had any recurrence. I know statistics say it's very unlikely but numbers don't always tell the truth. If anyone would like to share their story I would appreciate it.

Nausea and Flu Like Symptoms Post Partial Nephrectomy?
I completed my scheduled surgery on Tuesday, 7/8: DaVinci Robotic Assisted Partial Left Nephrectomy for RCC. Surgery took 3 1/2 hours - as they had a hard time "turning the kidney" so that they could access the tumor. However, once that was completed the surgery was uneventful and no complications. I was discharged on Wed…

Has anyone here ever been close to the brink...
and still managed to make it back and get stronger? I'm just curious if there are any stories of those who may have been at deaths door, but managed to fight back. Sorry for the long post, but I guess I'm worried and want to paint a full picture to get any insight. A little back story first. I've written on here a few…

Basically both were beneign as well as the two nodules removed from my left adrenal gland. I'm in the clear and will have the one year followup CT scan. The tumors were…

Private Message Spam
Hello everyone, Some of you know that we have had previous problems with a particularly tenacious scammer named sarah, and unfortunately she has struck again. While we have security measures in place, we can't prevent all spam. We are currently working on measures to try and block this kind of private message spamming. If…

Scared & Worried! :(
Hello everyone. Hope all is doing well. I'm going to try and keep my story short. It all started June 16, 2014 when my husband started having pains that folded him over! I brought him to our local ER they did a CT, & bloodwork and saw a kidney stone (2mm) in the right kidney gave him IV fluids pain meds & told us he should…

Warm fuzzies that uplift and comfort versus knowledge that increases stress?
I've wanted to write about this topic for quite awhile. I pray that I am understood in what I am attempting to learn about myself and about others. I would appreciate some conversation regarding your personal opinion on warm fuzzies that uplift and comfort versus knowledge that may increase an individuals stress level.…

How long did you have blood in your urine after surgery
Hi. I figure I'd ask the compatriots here a question that has been bugging me. I'm still seeing blood in my urine and some clots 13 days after Da Vinci robotic surgery on my left kidney 70% of the kidney was left. I!m a rare case in that the 3mm kidney stone that brought this all on is still stuck in my ureter. The surgeon…

handling post-surgery constipation
Hi all - First, thanks for your support going into my surgery. This past Monday I had a full nephrectomy - laparoscopic - and everything is great except this terrible constipation. Miralax isn't working on it and I am considering a Fleet suppository. Anyone have any advice / experience they can share? Thanks so much.

One year check up.
X rays last week, CT-scan w/contrast this past Monday. Called the doctor's office today (Thu.) and was told that the findings were no evidence of recurring or new tumors. What good news it was. Mini celebration, went to local fireworks with brother, sister, niece and 7 month old gr.nephew. No better way to celebrate good…

Blood Pressure Medications
Before my kidney cancer, I was told that my weight made it likely I was going to have blood pressure issues "soon". My blood pressure was actually pretty good even though I was overweight before the surgery. It was generally in the 120's/high 70's range. Since my kidney was removed, my BP has gone up some and so now…
