My husband has Stage IVa SCC of the left tonsil and lymph nodes. He had surgery to remove both 2 weeks ago, and now has been prescribed 8 weeks of chemo (carboplatin & taxol) and 8 weeks of radiation and chemo. From what I have heard from the oncologist is that it is not the day of the treatments that you feel terrible but…

How to help the "skeletal look"
Anyone have any good suggestions for weight gain besides the shakes? I am 4 years out now and still struggle daily with the weight and with looking so bony. I'd love to have some meat on these bones. I find that it takes 3 or more tall glasses of water per meal just to get the food down and there's not much room for food…

How long did you have pain from tonsilectomy?
My husband had his right tonsil removed 10 days ago and the pain is still pretty severe. It seems like he has a good day of lesser pain and then it comes back the next day full force... How long does this healing take, how long were you in pain after surgery? Thanks for any info.

Mucositis won't go away after treatment
I am writing as my husbands advocate (again and still!). He was diagnosed with scc last Sept and started 7 wks radiation and 3 chemo treatments that finished on 2/22 (yeah!). The dr's insisted on a j-peg before he started which has been a real blessing throughout as he's suffered a huge case of mucositis which the dr's…

I'm a 1 1/2 year survivor.
You guys probably know the story: I went to the doctor with a chronic sore throat, was referred to E.N.T., who referred me to Oncology. They quickly put me on radiation (five days/wk for six weeks) and chemo (I.V., four times over the same six weeks). It had progressed to Stage IV, but they seem to have found and treated…

New here, what questions do I need to ask the doctors?
My husband (46yo) found some lumps in his neck while shaving about a month ago. He had several lymph nodes and his right tonsil removed last Thursday. Was able to do a frozen biopsy of the nodes during surgery which the ENT called squamos cell carcinoma. He believes the origin of the cancer is the tonsil, but we will not…

hungry every 3 hrs
I am in my first week of treatment for stage II nasopharynx cancer. The treatment, I believe, is standard (Cisplatin on days 1, 23 and 44) and IMRT radiation 5x week. I was told that it's hard to eat during treatment for various reasons. However, I was not given a peg tube. Although I experienced a lot of nausea in the…

I haven't smelled it before, however, I can best describe it as trash / burning blood. I have asked the docs and the attendants about it. I haven't gotton any reasonable explanation. The…
