MD Anderson
Hi, all. I'm going to MDA next week to see what they can do for me. I have stage IV rectal cancer, have not had surgery/resections yet, just 12 treatments of Folfox plus avastin. Seemed to have done some good, but from everything I've read (including on Herman Cain ), cutting the junk out is the best option for maximum…

Blue Note Fund give grants to CRC patients in need
Just received an email from CCA and thought I'd share. Sounds like they will give a one time $300 grant to families in need, for household expenses or med bills. Or if you are doing well and want to help someone in need, you can make a donation to the fund, or purchase Alan Jackson's book - 100% of the proceeds go to the…

Flaxseed Oil....
This is a site that was sent to me by a good friend of mine. The man (Mr. Beckwith) was my friends grandfather, so that made me much more apt to believe what is being said. So, I thought I'd share it with everyone on here & you can use your own judgment, but you better believe I'll be buying some Flaxseed Oil!…

Difficult Decision
I have reached my limit on treatment options and basically will need to make a choice to find a trial or stop treatment. I go for a CT scan on Monday and meet back with the doctor on Tuesday. I don't know if I really care anything about doing a trial to gain a couple of months, possibly being sick during this time. I am…

Good News
Yahh..some good news so far. We've been waiting for the genetics testing from the biopsy piece of the tumor. It took an extensive 4 weeks. The genetics doctor called me yesterday and told me that it came back normal. As a precaution all hubby's siblings and our kids will have to start early colonocopys at the age of 27.…

Is there anything I hate worse than going for a scan? Updated
No. Can’t think of anything I hate more… with the possible exception of waiting for scan results. But I can’t complain too much about the PET I got this morning, given that I have to basically throw a tantrum every time in order to get approved for one. It’s just that I have a little extra anxiety about getting the scan at…

Who has had chemo FIRST then surgery?
Recently found liver mets via MRI. Per surgeon, not a candidate for surgery at this time (five liver mets in various locations). The recommendation is to use chemo (FOLFIRI and Erbitux) to shrink/stop the tumor growth and then consider surgery at a future time. Anyone been down this road before? Is surgery a consideration…

Hair loss from Folfox?
When taking Folfox, did your hair fall out and if so....about what treatment? I'll be starting chemo next week and wanted to be proactive and get a wig now. I know, it's the vanity in me but I just don't want to walk around with patches of hair missing. I told my husband since I've always been a brunette, I could get some…

Maintenance Chemo - Extended Break
The basic question today is: Has anyone experienced having their "Xeloda break extended to two weeks?" By way of background, I was on Xeloda 1000mg twice a day for two weeks with a one week break, which I have read is a pretty standard regimen for Xeloda. It is even the regimen recommended by the company. During the second…

chemoembolization???
Can any of you explain to me the difference between chemoembolization and the HAI or are they the same thing?? I just havent heard any of you refer to it as chemoembolization. And do you have any idea why the radiologist comparing new ct scan to older one would make the assumption that the patient has had chemoembolization…

Moving Forward
Just wanted to give an update on my hubby, Ron. We met with MDA Rad Onc today. Another unwelcome, unexpected surprise. First, the good news. Ron will be getting 4 rad treatments on his lung tumor. No lymph nodes lit up in the area on the PET, so no major surgery is recommended. The doc is fairly confident this will…

Some interesting info from my naturopath re "leaky gut" and chemo
Just wanted to throw this out there for any who might be interested. Went to see my naturopath today to see if she could help with some serious joint pain I've been having. I developed joint/muscle pain a couple of years ago while on my 2nd round of chemo, but it got really bad back in August, especially in my hands and…
