Seeking Advice
Last summer, I was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis. This seems to be complicating my CRC follow up. My CEA, previously dependable for me, appears no longer so. I have been told my slowly rising CEA is due to the hepatitis. Scans of my liver are also confused by the hepatitis. I am concerned that what I previously…

Port Removal without Anesthesia
I'm 6 months post chemo and with a clear colonoscopy and CAT scan, I can get my port out. I hate the bloody thing, but my surgeon says that she uses no anesthesia. In fact she implied I was a bit of a baby for being nervous about it. She says no local is needed either since she cuts along the scar tissue and there "isn't…

Appreciate any help
Hi all I’ve been lurking for the past few days while awaiting diagnosis. CT Abdomen Pelvis (with contrast) and colonoscopy showed a 7cm malignant looking rectosigmoid lesion along with 6mm sigmoid polyp and a tiny 3-4 mm rectal polyp (likely Hyperplastic—hot biopsied). The initial (most certain) diagnosis is Sigmoid c. The…

New Historic Low for My CA19-9 Test
"74" The reference marker is good for anything under <55 But, this is the very best number I've been able to achieve in just over 8.6 years of fighting. In my early days, I was in the high 600's....over the past year or so, I've still trended between 174-260. So, as I was reviewing my new CEA level...2.8 and trending a…

long term stage iv w/o liver resection?
I've read a lot of survivors that say they have had liver rescetions and that has contribued to their long term, but i'm wondering if the dr. says that it is not possible (ofcourse there is hope the chemo shrinks enough so that it is possible!!!) is chemo enough to keep a person longer term?!

It was first postop scan since amputation and as such was really meant to just document a baseline to compare future scans to if worried and not expecting problems but still doesn't stop the anxiety that they will show…

Scan results...
Mixed bag, but of course the "bad" is getting my attention. I have rectal -- mets to liver. Last scan showed liver mets dead...caput. That still looks good. But my diahrea/constipation has increased, as well as frequency -- kind of like when I got dx 10 months ago. Anyway, the onc said it looks like the rectal tumor has…

Cards are forth coming
I had my Christmas Cards printed up yesterday and the overseas ones are already for postage. (Reckon Pete's gonna have to wait for him to get back to Oz to get his.) I still have to stuff and seal the rest. I'd wanted to write something personal on each, but my hands are still a bit too tender. I've assigned Lulu the task…

Update on my mom
Hi everyone. My mom recently completed round 7 of chemo of an expected 12 and surgery after that. As i'm only the 18 year old son, i'm not fully filled in with the details, but i'm pretty sure she is receiving three chemo's- folfox, oxiliplatin, and another one that i'm not sure of the name. From rounds 3-5 she didn't…

My dear friends, As many of you know, my Rick passed away on Thanksgiving morning. But it was exactly this date and time three years ago that Rick was initially diagnosed with colon cancer. Another Kick in the Balls
No typo in the subject title. I got my CEA today and it jumped again for 613 to 937. We are keeping in mind that this is after only one treatment of Zaltrap, the problems I've been having lately and accounting for dead cancer cells. I've also been pretty concerned about the severe and increasingly painful edema I've had in…

I'm pretty excited...a personal best.
So I realize there may not be a category for this in the Guinness Book of World Records, but maybe there should be, given how many of us are dealing with cancer for years on end. As of today, I have officially made it for one whole year without any kind of surgery. Since the fall of 2009, I've been disemboweled five times,…

"And Now For The Rest Of The Story"
Hello All, I have been mostly silent for the last month. I have been swept up in another horrible tornado, just as I was back in 2008, when Johnnybegood uttered those words "Mom, I have colorectal cancer." At my hubby's insistence, we had not told her the news. She is feeling better, and her platelets are rising, and may…
