Cancer again invades my life...but it is not me this time
In October my sister had surgery for uterine cancer. They initally set it as Stage 3, but with a chest CT scan this week it has now been classed as Stage 4 with multiple small mets to both lungs. She starts chemo next Friday. As for any Stage 4 cancer, it is to buy her more time not a cure. So now I take on the role of…

Thanks for the prayers and support, some good news to report from the black forest
maybe magic happens in the black forest, maybe magic happens when we have faith, pray, get good medicine and experience unparalleled care and support. The road to good health has many turns and twists, nethertheless good news is worth sharing. especially what i hope is significant tumour reduction without hardcore chemo. I…

After treatment how long to take to get back to feeling "normal"
I was diagnosed with colon cancer stage 2 in August of 2010. It tested high risk for reoccurrence and I had resection and 12 chemo treatments. I handled the chemo as well as can be expected. My last treatment was in 05/2011. I am fortunate as I do not have any signs of reoccurrence. I worked all the way through treatment.…

My wife was diagnosed 5 weeks ago
with colon cancer that has spread. The dr. told us monday that there is no cure, that the best they can do is try to maintain it. They never mentioned what stage it is, most likely stage 4 or pretty much anything else. She is on two different chemo treatments, one that makes her sensitive to cold as well as 5/fu pump she…

Thin stools after colorectal surgery
Hello, It has been over 2 months since I had my reversal and over 7 months since my LAR (removing a portion of the rectum) surgery was done but I still continue to have thin pencil like or even flat ribbon like stools. I don't want my wife to get misdiagnosed, advice please
Got some new news yesterday regarding my wife. She has had right side pain for a couple of months but has been busy taking care of me and with work so she put off seeing a doctor. She got an ultrasound yesterday and the ultrasound guy said she had a 1 1/2 inch cyst on her liver but not to worry because it looks like a…

Hello My Sweet Semi-Colons:
First, thank each and every one of you for your words of sympathy and love expressed to me upon losing my precious George. The days have gone by in a blurr and it was difficult to stay strong but I did and took care of the necessary. I really had no idea there was so much to do when death occurs but with the help of my…

As the winter rain sweeps in and falls CEA count rises
Our big rain storm is due this morning, the darkened clouds, the raindrops reminding me of tears from the heavens as the Gods weep in sorrow for us and our sometime misfortunes. Unfortunately I arose at 4:00 AM this morning to find an email waiting for me (I inquire each time via email of my CEA count)while 3 weeks ago the…

Easing back from my "vacation"
It's been a pretty rough weekend here. Because of my hospital stay last weekend, my treatment was delayed by a day, getting it on Wednesday instead of Tuesday. That put my disconnect from the pump on Friday, but since I have a PICC, I was able to do that myself. Friday was my mom's birthday and my dad hosted a lovely…

Insensitive comments
Two comments were made to me this weekend that just about floored me. My folks and I went to my sisters house for dinner on Thanksgiving and this bone headed 18 year old kid she rents a room to told me, as we were leaving to "try not to die too soon." The first earful he got was from me and pretty much the rest of the…

Hi, Everyone. I wanted to share that last Friday was my 5 year mark. NED!! Thanksgiving always brings thoughts of what happened and what could have happened, but this milestone was wonderful to reach. We had a lovely Thanksgiving with our daughter, her husband, and our 3 grandchildren. What a blessing! On Friday we took a…

Am I getting better or just getting older...or both??????
Went for my semi-annual blood draw today. Normally it's a bit of a hassle...I have no fully working veins in my elbows anymore (thank you, cancer, for blowing them all!). This time, with the requested 'butterfly' pediatric needle, the tech hit the first time!!!! Good thing, too...the next try would have been the much more…

This is harder than I thought
If anyone remembers, I am the 18 year old son of my 55 year old mother with colon cancer. She was diagnosed in late July this year and by the looks of it, it seems to be pretty advanced. She's currently receiving chemotherapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital in NYC. I'm pretty sure her chemo regimen is folxox,…

Christmas Cards
Hi everyone, I have not been on for awhile. Just too hard some days. After thinking about the Christmas card list, this is what I have decided. In lieu of sending cards , I will be making a donation to the cancer fund. I have to find out where to send specifically for colorectal cancer. It shouldn't be too hard. I have lost…

I'm trying out a new pair of shoes with a couple miles to go...
I really don't post much anymore since being out of any treatment for awhile now. I still lurk and try to catch up but it's usually just too mentally time consuming. I find after reading a bad news post then contemplating a reply, I would think about it for hours afterward and it just stays with me. I really don't know how…

Autumn leaves, clinging on, it's how I feel!
In the black forest Germany, the leaves are a stunning range of greens, yellows and Gold and orange. The snow and winds have not come yet, they still cling to the trees. It's so beautiful. Then by the main river at Frankfurt, different trees, most are bare now. A few of these leaves on these equally beautiful trees hangon…

Run4Life
It appears it may be too soon to launch Run 4 Life outside of family and friends. I certainly don't want to distract from the real purpose of Run 4 Life by its authenticity called into question since we're not totally there yet. DMJ, sorry for the snippy reply. It's been a rough day with a 2.5y...So, for those of you that…

FYI - Fakers on the internet - faking cancer
Yes, even on this site. A group of us here were sucked in by someone in the Chat Room several years ago - ostensibly an 18 year old, single mom with Leukemia. We eventually found significant holes in her story, and outed her. Everything is as described in the article I reference below. It's long, but worth the read. My son…

Confused about cancer scanning
I am due for colon cancer screening next month. My urologist recommended CT Colonography, Because of my age 81 and the fact that I had radiotherapy for prostate cancer earlier on this year, and also because it is much cheaper than colonoscopy. (I have no insurance or healthcare) However I have diverticulosis and I have…
