Plan is to keep treating the colon cancer because it is more aggressive. I'd…

Scary Week
Sorry to pile on after a scary week with so many other setbacks for us:-( I have been in the hospital since Thursday night. I presented with massive pain, bloating, and fecal vomiting and diarrhea. Their original prognosis was a perforated bowel, which is kind of a de-facto death sentence for me due to the way my tumors…

So much for surgery
A month or so ago I posted that my doc mentioned surgery, I was stunned. I've been trucking right along since being diagnosed Stage IV September 14, 2010. Basically living like someone with a chronic disease. CEA dropped to 4 within a month of starting chemo, tumors have been shrinking regularly (started with liver 75%…

Got my ultrasound results- update- got written report
I had an abdominal ultrasound and got the results yesterday. The reason I had the ultrasound was because I have had a hard mass that protrudes out from right under where my scar from my liver resection is. I've been wondering is it a tumor, hernia, scar tissue (as my onc thought), or even a swollen part of my liver due to…

Thank you, my semi's....update on my sis....
Just got the call...my sister is doing well. She came home from the hospital yesterday, no nausea after the procedure. Both sides sentinel nodes removed, she will learn in a week what the path is from that...but she said that the surgeon said there were 'no surprises' during either procedure. SO, thank you, my…

Folfox odyssey starts tomorrow, questions
Well, as some of you know, I had received conflicting info about whether I needed chemo or not. Between second opinions and the responses from here and the Colon Club, I have decided to go through with it and start Folfox tomorrow. I was offered it or Xelox and am starting the Folfox first because the dosage of Oxaliplatin…

The Recurrence of Recurrences
Norm (Kimo Sabe) posted "Food for thought (& some vitamins)" on Jan 7 about "Complementary cancer care: the use of vitamins and supplements" and their role in keeping people healthy. Very interesting and important. Yesterday Craig made his post on Recurrences in our Community. I had replied to Norm on Jan 8 with the…

The Subject of Recurrence in Our Community
Well, I’m in a deeply introspective mood today, yesterday, and in fact, all weekend – thus, I have this innate need to reach out to the community. I’ve been brooding and slowly simmering the past several days over the recent news of recurrence or probable recurrences with several of our friends – they find themselves…

9th Xelox treatment
My chemo regimen has gotten just a little worse with each treatment. Thursday was my 9th of 12 scheduled infusions of oxaliplatin and on same round of oral Xeloda. I've just risen from four days in bed, mostly in an unconscious state with numb hands and feet and muscle cramps, and I haven't been able to eat anything at all…

1 year today since diagnosis.
One year ago today I heard the dreaded words "you have colon cancer". It has been a year of ups and downs. I found out in February that I had mets to my liver and went from a Stage II to a Stage IV. Started out this year with a tumor marker of 337 and as of 12/23 I am at 1.0; first couple of MRI's showed 30+ lesions across…

6 years after stage 4 diagnosis...there is always hope!
I haven't been on this board forever....I never "forget" that I am a longterm survivor but my hope for all of us is that the memory becomes more distant. I had my "last"? MRI in October/2011. I had surgery for stage 4/single met to liver in December 2005. When i went for my MRI results my surgeon said, "cured". I asked…

Hard to watch
Hard to watch hubby so ill. Still in hospital, in so much pain. Meds put him out until it starts again. He is so weak he can't hold the phone when calls come. Mornings are better, he seems more oriented. Evenings scare the hell out of me. I know the dr said maybe several months, but how can he last like this. I want to be…

Food for thought (& some vitamins)
I just saw an interesting television show on the University of California television channel (4412 Dishnetwork). It was about "Complementary cancer care: the use of vitamins and supplements". The presenter was Donald Abrams M.D., UCSF Osher Center for integrative medicine and chief of hematology and oncology UCSF. I…

Scoot over Pete, we might as well sit down next to each other *UPDATE* 01/11/12
Received email back this morning from onc (I emailed yesterday afternoon) and the CEA has gone DOWN .2, now mind you .2 isn't much but it ISN'T UP!! Other liver functions tests are back to normal except for one (I'll find out about that one in a couple of weeks, no sense pushing luck) so that's GOOD!!! Don't know what was…

They are scheduling an endoscopy. Just curious if this happened to anyone else. Oh, the heartburn too. Nexium almost daily. Looking forward to…

Why are Posts Suddenly Disappearing
Twice now I've been replying to a post and after hitting submit it says it's no longer there and sure enough, it isn't. Is there a glitch in the system or something. Just wondering as I'm afraid to write anything at length in case it just gets lost in cyberspace. Anyone else having this problem? Kim
