Hi everyone, I have been lurking for about a week, read quite a bit and learned a lot. Now on to my Cancer diagnosis and treatment. After trying to convince myself it was only stress causing the my bowel issues, I had what most would consider a wake up call. An urgent need to go, resulting in filling the toilet with blood.…

Friday Riddle
RIDDLE: Einstein's Riddle The story behind Einstein's riddle is that Albert Einstein created it in the late 1800s, and claimed that 98% of the world population couldn't solve it. I am not sure of the true origin, but I have seen this one floating around the internet, and it is a good brain exercise. Here it is: - In a…

Question for all you knowledgeable colon cancer survivors
Hello all - I am a stage 3 colon cancer survivor - coming up on 5 years, in fact. Within the last few months, I've been experiencing the same symptoms I had when I was first diagnosed: low-grade fever that gets worse as the day goes on, night sweats, and increased cravings for sweets. Obviously, I'm more than a little…

Remission vs NED, how to explain?
I've had two people this week ask me if I am 'in remission'. Both are highly educated people and I don't want to offend. Since I was Stage III and all cancer was removed during surgery, I am NOT in remission. Remission loosely means 'no disease activity of a chronic, incurable condition'. Have you found a way to explain…

get a second opinion
My story: The colorectal surgeon my doctor referred me to? It took 2 weeks to get in to see him. This was on a Thurs. He only does surgery on Wednesdays (kinda a red flag there, do I really want a surgeon who only works at his skill one day a week?) and his first opening was 6 weeks away. I made an appointment at Mayo that…

Scary Allergic Reaction!
Hey Semi-colons! Looks like there's been a little bit of a rumble in the room lately, huh? Sure glad my days of being in the middle of the fray are over (I hope). HA! So I'm back from my 30 year high school reunion weekend extravaganza and where do I land but in the ER! Not once but twice! YIKES! I'm driving with my son,…

Is it always something?
My husband missed chemo last week because of an infection in his incision. I was angry with him because I thought he caused it. He has had a bump on the incision since surgery, and it always bothered him because it hits right where his pants sit. He thought it might be an ingrown hair and picked at it, and by the time we…

You're ok mebored
Man, if you had a successful surgery with clean margins you should be straight. I don't think chemo is the standard treatment. At your age I wouldn't risk it. The damage it would do to you isn't worth the few % points you would gain in chances of recurrence. I know it feels terrible for you but what I've been through I…
