Is there anyone who has not had long term issues with the Neuropathy from Oxaliplatin?
I am only on cycle 4 and already having issues. It went away completely after cycles 1 and 2, then cycle 3 i had a reduced dose and i hardly got it at all. Cycle 4 now, I got it back at 100% and it has been awful. It makes me crazy. I could not live with this the rest of my life and stay sane. I love to bake and cook, and…

BRRRRRRRRR!
Well, I sit here with a blanket around me, looking out to a snow-covered field, with a canal in front of it that is frozen solid. I just looked....it's 5 below 0!!!!!! Tomorrow will be my 3rd (!) time skating...this time, right out in front of the house on the canal. It is so beautiful...the sky is clear, but the days are…

Update
For those of you with interest: My mom took the news of having thyroid cancer on top of colon cancer better than I thought. I think I planted enough seeds ahead of time to educated her about this new cancer to ward off any anxiety that may have consumed her. We were talking on the way to to doctor's office and she said…

Any ideas?
Hey, guys. I posted a question on the stomach cancer board, but apparently they're not as active as we are. My sister developed a stomach bruise right after Christmas. Couldn't remember doing anything, but our family bruises easily. She went to the doctor about something else and casually mentioned the bruise. The doctor…

Mental Issues
Hi All, Just thought I would throw out some thoughts and see what others might think or share what they might have gone through. I was DX in June 07, did surgery/chemo/rad, NEDs on June 08, it came back in Nov 2008 with mets to the lung, surgery again and now on oral chemo. The first go around I was in denial, pretty much…

Allergy to cancer?
Has anybody experienced severe rash and itchy hives which could be considered as an allergy to cancer. Ever since I am battling CC, I'm suffering relatively often severe allergic reaction even when I am not on chemo. Hives are occurring on my arms legs and buttocks. I was intensively trying to find out the reason but with…

Happy New Year everyone! I just finished my 12 rounds of FOLFOX and am counting down the days until my reconnection surgery. I was just wondering how many of you that had ports put in prior to chemo had them removed right after you were finished. Part of my wants it out, but I also know that I'm at a higher risk than most…

just diagnosed - rectal cancer......
Hello, All, I was diagnosed with rectal cancer on Dec. 11, 2008. The flurry of activity that's followed that dreadful day is quite overwhelming as you well know. However, my biggest issue at the moment is how to deal with family members. The option of who to tell and when to tell them was taken away from me the day I was…

How to know if you are getting enough chemo? All of your different regimens make me wonder
For colon cancer you read that 6 months of Folfox is the standard treatment, and that seems to be generally what most colon cancer patients get. However i keep hearing my onc telling people in my cancer center that 14 treatments are the standard for colon. Where is she getting her info from? I sure have not found it on the…

My vanity is showing - any thoughts on coloring hair while on chemo?
I've just started Xeloda, Oxilaplatin, and avastin for stage IV colon cancer (1st recurrance). I really don't want to go a year like I did on the first go round without coloring my hair as the regrowth is nasty! I thought maybe the semi-permanent color that washes out would be okay. I guess I should just be thankful that I…

Resolved - Who cares about statistics!!!
I was really depressed a couple of days ago when I found out that my dad's doctor said he might have 6-12 months to live and I came to the board looking for thoughts and prayers. You all are wonderful. I appreciate everything that you said. I am resolved to enjoy the time I have with him and not worry about the statistics.…

xeolda
My dad has been on xeolda sinc the end of September. His only side effect is slight stomach pains late in the day since he takes 4 pills in the morning and 4 in the evening (500 mg each). He does not have the hand/foot syndrome. Is that okay? Does that mean it is not working? I am not sure. I know with erbitrux, he had the…

Yikes - 2 Days Until Chemo
In October 2008, a colonoscopy found and removed one polyp. A week later I got the call that it had gone bad, cancer, oh no. In November I had a sigmoid colectomy to remove the section of colon. All signs were that that would be the end of it but 'no' tiny amounts of cancer were found in two lymph nodes. Great! Chemo to…

Happy 2009!!! and a quick update...
Hello everyone: For those of you who don't know me, I was Dx'd November 2005 with a genetic form of colorectal cancer (FAP) when I was 8 months pregnant. Surgery and SIRT
Happy New Year! With the New Year comes a new treatment plan. After 12 rounds of chemo (folfox+avastin), the lesions in my liver shrunk from 8.8 cm to 5.8cm, and two smaller ones from 2cm to 1.1 cm. Still too risky for resection. So my docs suggest that I have surgery first to remove the primary tumor in the rectum.…

Need Prayers and Positive Thoughts
Well, I got some bad news today. My parents have known since September but did not want to tell me. After my dad's bought with pnemonia in August, he asked his doctor how much time he had left and the doctor said 6-12 months. My dad is stage IV since May 2002 (many surgeries and treatments). We have been very lucky, we…
