Hindsight, what would you of done differently?
Besides being certain to keep good medical records (thanks Nasher) what do you know now that you wish you had known before being treated? Thanks! Sarah--3boys_mom

Medications and lab tests
I am doing research because I am having a FNA on a very large nodule on my thyroid. It has blood flow, and I have some swollen nodes. I'm not looking for the worst case scenario, but trying to be educated when I go to my appointments. (and I'm a little scared, my mother died of cancer at age 33) I've been reading several…

papillary thyroid cancer/colon cancer
I was diagnosed about three years ago with papillary thyroid cancer. I colonoscopy today that showed some polyps -- they are testing them to see if they are cancerous. Has anyone else had colon cancer after thyroid cancer?

Genetic Testing, BRAF, etc. Anyone done it?
I'm curious about genetic testing. I have papillary thyroid cancer and Hashimotos, and autoimmunity and other weird stuff runs in my family big time. I'd like to look into genetic testing, but I'm not really sure how to go about it, or even really what to ask for, what they do, etc. Anybody here ever done it? I live near a…

RAI - second thoughts
I am having second thoughts about the RAI... My tumor was right on the cusp of where it is recommended to do RAI, as it was right at 2 cm. This delay in thyrogen has made me reconsider whether I should do the RAI at all. If one does not do RAI, how can they tell if the cancer returns? Is it harder to treat if it does, and…

Great site for men and women to discuss issues related to thyroid cancer and radioactive iodine. It's a closed group but they accept members so just ask to join.

Not Necessarily cancer free like I thought
So today I had an appointment with both my surgeon and my Endo. The surgeon informed me that during my nuclear scan there was some uptake of RAI in my lymph nodes on my left side. I only had some on the right side removed during surgery. I told him I wasn't aware of that since the nurse from my Endo had called me and told…

hurthle cells found but told everything is ok?
Hello my name is Linda. In 2005 I had a hemi-thyroidectomy. In the pathology report it states that things like-hyperplastic coloid nodules, grossly encapsulated nodule micro and macrofollicular change with cholesterol granuloma formation. In some areas Hurthle cells change has been seen with cytologic atypia. Dystrophic…

Thyroid levels normal-Still feeling bad
I had a thyroidectomy in Sept 2010, RAI at the end of Oct 2010, with scan in early Nov 2010. Everything came out fine. I started Synthroid in early Nov 2010 and have been on a roller coaster ever since. The seven week period after I have an increase in medication, it takes 2 weeks for me to start feeling better, then…

RAI - would you do it all over again?
I am at a point where I am on the border about RAI - doc recommends it just to be sure the cancer is all gone, so we've opted to go the thyrogen route (and wait.....and wait...). My question is for those of you who've been in this situation - would you do RAI if you had the choice again? Or would you opt out? My papillary…

Trouble Concentrating, Memory and Confusion
I can't seem to get back to my mental capacities and I am not sure I ever will. I try so hard to remember important things but I just can't. Since my Thyroidectomy I have to do something several times before I can retain the information. This is so unlike me. I have a demanding job that requires quick thinking and…

Muscle aches and pains
Hi all. I have been having muscles aches and pains - mainly in my legs, since my last surgery and RAI. Its been 3 months since the surgery and 6 weeks since the RAI. My thyroxine has been adjusted - I just had blood work and they say I'm taking too much now so my dose will change again. I feel ok except that my leg muscles…

Baby, maybe?
I am curious if any women out there have gotten pregnant after thyroid cancer and RAI. My doc says I'd need to wait at least 1 year to start trying, and frankly, I'm not sure if I'm up for it. I always wanted more children, but I am a bit scared - how was it managing the thyroid levels while pregnant?

Suppressed TSH and Muscles
Had TT in Sept 2010 along with 3.75 parathyroids removed. Had papillary cancer in both lobes of thyroid, but was not outside them, stage I. Had RAI in October 2010 with no "hot spots" detected on body scan. Was on 125mcg of Synthroid after surgery; last testing of TSH in March was at 0.040. Then Endo changed my Synthroid…

Exhausted 3 Weeks After Lobectomy
Hello everyone. I'm new here. I'm a 30 yr old male and I had a thyroid lobectomy because of what the fine needle biopsy determined was a tumor that had the potential to be a follicular neoplasm. I was diagnosed last week with papillary cancer with follicular characteristics, whatever that means. I'm scheduled to have the…

extremely anxious
I am 6 day's post-op from my total thyroidectomy and lymph node dissection. I had an aspiration biopsy last month that came back "suspicious" for cancer. The day following my surgery, the surgeon told me that my lymph nodes looked inflammed and that I did indeed appear to have cancer growing in my thyroid and lymph nodes.…
