Cancer Markers
Hi! I was at my naturopath the other day... and he said the oncologist should be tracking cancer markers. This is the first time, I had heard this. My oncologist draws blood before my biweekly FOLFOX treatment... and not once told me about these markers. I plan to ask the oncologist at my next treatment... but could anyone…

severe heartburn reaction
I was diagnosed last year this time with stage 4 colon cancer. Finished treatment with Oxilaplatin, Avastin and 5 FU plus 46 hour pump of 5 FU. in January and started on a maintenance of Avastin, Leucavorin and a bolus of 5 FU. My marker numbers were at 9 in June and started to rise. After a PET scan last week I started on…

Immodium long term
I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer 22 years ago this month. I was extremely blessed in that I caught it very early. Treatment consisted of 2 surgeries, no chemo or radiation. Nevertheless, it has lifelong consequences which are getting worse with age. I have taken Imodium on a semi-regular basis for all these years and…

Hello, newbie here
Hi all, I'm new around here and, honestly, scared as hell. I'm 49 and just met my oncologist yesterday. I've been dx with stage 4 rectal cancer. I am scheduled to get my port placement this Monday and start chemo on Wednesday. Trying darn hard to keep a positive attitude but I am finding it really hard to not just be…

Treatment decision
I'm struggling right now to make a treatment decision. My back story: Diagnosed Feb. 2018 with colon cancer and had right hemi-colectomy right away. Stage 3 - 1 of 22 lymph nodes. Xeloda as clean-up. Then 6 months later scans show mets to the liver. Folfiri + Avastin (6) then resection surgery for 3 mets. 2 mets were deep…

Dreaded ostomy
And so the dreaded ostomy is in. I'll have to live with it for 3-6 months or more, but supposedly can resume full activity. I expect to be here at the lovely Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center hospital for another couple of weeks for now. Mood is improving, and I expect to really improve when I'm allowed to eat. This…

Chadwick Boseman
is it normal that when I read the article saying he died from a 4 year battle with colon cancer, i counted out how long it has been since my diagnosis. It is all so arbitrary. He was stage 3, but it progressed to 4. Make you wonder how that happens even when you are fighting it. I was thinking earlier today how the…

Surgery
Hi Everyone, First I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. My liver ablation on 8-20 went very well. It started around 8 am and I was out of there by 11:30. Iam feeling pretty good, a little sore right after but I have no soreness at all now. I go back for a follow up in a month plus an MRI. Also in…

Folfox - 12 rounds - Not sure I can do this
Hi Everyone- I wanted to create a separate topic, but I am really struggling with the Folfox treatment. A bit of background... Diagnosed in March 2020, surgery in April. Started Foxflox on June 1st, receiving treatment every 2 weeks. At first, I was devastated by the diagnosis. But then my hopes were high after a…

Happy Wednesday Everybody!!
Just wanted to pop in and wish everybody a happy day! I am still running with "life like I stole it" and doing great. I have no hindering symptoms that keep me from enjoying my days. I hike and kayak often and just simply enjoy my days. I had my last CT scan at the beginning of the year and have chosen not to do anymore or…

Opdivo caused hyperqrowth of tumors
I had one infusion of Opdivo on July 1, 2020. I ended up in the hospital on July 4th due to low oxygen levels and extreme tiredness caused by one treatment of Opdivo. I also had a headache for several days and was treated for pneumonia but the hospital I was at didn't diagnose or treat the reaction to Opdivo even though I…

Soliciting Opinions
Onc gave me a clearer picture of the situation, though clear as mud now as opposed to, I dunno, clear as poop? They're only confident about 2 mets, the rest wait and see for the PET scan Tumor board is split over the best course of action. FOLFIRI + avastin and surgery or just surgery. The chemo group says it is more…

Scan says stable but CEA went up to 3.7 so scared
my scans keep saying I am stable, but my CEA was 1.5, then rose to 2, now at 3.7. I have really bad allergies, but don't know if that could be the cause for the jump.

A Surprise, 3rd Chemo, LONSURF, is Working. 5-1/2 Years into this. (Stage IV)
I have not been around awhile. Saw some people passed away, a couple hit hard because I was friendly and was in contact with them, so took a bit of time off.I poke my head in now and again. Been dealing with hiding from the virus and trying to keep on going. The quick recap for those who do not know - DX in 2015 with…

Blood test didn't qualify for chemo
Hello all, my husband is currently going through adjuvant chemo after his surgery that took all of his cancer out. He was supposed to be going for his third round (out of 4) next week, but after his blood test, the nurse called and told us to come back in another week to repeat the blood test as his blood didn't qualify…

5fu ?
So my dad has stage 3 rectal cancer and is awaiting his second surgery to get the rest of it . At the appointment today the surgeon told us they needed to do another MRI . To make sure they could remove the rest of my dad's tumor cause it's behind the prostate and close to the intestins and urethra and maybe some blood…

It's back... Also, the second opinion question
My Onc's worry seems correct. Last MRI showed likely 4 new mets after the RFA/FOLFOX combo. Tumors are what we would consider large (all greater than 1cm) and this was after just 3 months. We haven't discussed next steps but I am guessing either hepatectomy or hepatectomy/chemo combination. I've read that having an…

Hello all
14 years now from the Stage 4 dx. Just sending out hope and love to all. I don't respond much... but I still read posts. I had a CT scan three weeks ago because I had pneunomia ( not Covdi). The Dr cam back in all serious and said I had pneunomia. But after 4 lung surgeries, I was waiting to here him say something else. I…

Emergency LAR - our first 48 hours (expectations versus reality)
I've update my profile with our first two days of KNOWING colorectal cancer; Decemeber 28 - 29, 1995. I wish it would have occured to someone to do a colonoscopy on my wife in the year prior to this, but that didn't happen. Heck, I can't even remember if we had internet or cell phones back then. My wife was 39 years old…
