Update on what has been happening with me since the cancer hit.
First I want to say this group is great! So many of you have helped me! I was diagnosed with colon cancer in April, 2009 and had a resection in May, 2009. The tumor was in the ascending colon and it was huge, 8.5 x 7.5 x 2.5 cm. I was staged at IIA and after a two month delay I started chemo. I didn’t do well on the chemo.…

Caregivers....
I just want you all to know how much I love and respect you all. You are what keeps us going and you're often the forgotten ones on the sidelines. While everyone is so concerned with my health, my husband is often ignored and I seriously think he's suffered more than I ever did. He's my best friend and my rock. Even though…

Tomorrow... 3 month results!
Ok, this is weird... we all talk about scanxiety, which we get when we have to get our regular CAT scans... wondering if the treatments are doing what they are suppose to or does the cancer have the upper hand. I have heard many folk say how anxious they are when going to get these scans, even though, they aren't getting…

$154.00 saved so far in costs, hoping it gets much more....
My Onc asked me to quit smoking, it's been rough, really rough, I admit to not totally having stopped, around 9:30 PM at night when my hubby lights one up and I smell it, I have to have one, sometimes two. But for a two and a half pack smoker a day, I'm doing pretty darn good. I resist all day long, hubby goes outside…

xeloda
I see the onc tomorrow and I suspect even hope that if I need chemo (who am I kidding-I will) that it is once again Xeloda after four plus years. My question is: Has anyone taken Xeloda and not gotten Hand and Foot syndrome? The last time I had really bad. Yes I used bag balm with socks and gloves 24/7 for 15 weeks of it.…

Darn - got my chest tube afterall
Well, things didn't go as I would like. I ended up with a chest tube late yesterday afternoon. Each x-ray showed more collapsing of my lung. It couldn't refill. I don't feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest anymore, but I'm really sore. The tube is close to my port. I can't do anything that uses my left chest…

Learned New Trick While Doing Colon Prep
Thought I would share this with you in between my 40-yard dashes, LOL:) I'm bowel prepping for tomorrow's scope. The hospital instructions said to use a STRAW as this goes to the espohagus and does not stay on the taste buds too long. I then use a "Sprite" rinse and gargle and swirl a shot of Sprite to help neutralize any…

Vitamin D - book worth reading
I'm reading The Vitamin D Solution by Michael Holick. I'm sure the relationship between vitamin D and cancer has been discussed previously on these boards. This book examines the relationship in detail. It's well written, well-documented, and is written by someone with 30 years of research experience in the field - he is…
