Esophagus damage, they think...
So I took your advice and called my oncs and they told me to stop over at the hospital there for a look-see on why I am having trouble swallowing. The verdict they'll talk about is possible damage to the esophagus from the chemo or even a possible thrush infection, also from the chemo. They gave me a special "Magic…

Trip to Disney
We made the trip to Disney and to say the least, in my opinion, it was not a good thing to have done. My husband suffered terribly. He was able to enjoy a few things now and thing and I think he is thankful he went but also thankful he's home. He wanted those memories with his daughter so he's happy he went. His pain level…

Permanent Epidural Pump for Pain Management
Hopefully, someone can give me some quick answers regarding a permanent epidural in the back with a pump to control my husband's intense abdominal pain. The doctor is looking at this as a method to attempt to give him relief from the horrible pain he is enduring. Anyone know anything about this - pros and cons? He must…

Anemia?
I finished 12 cycles of FOLFOX at the beginning of June for Stage III colon cancer. I'm going to be getting my port removed on Monday and had a CBC done yesterday in connection with that. The CBC showed that I am still anemic--hemoglobin is 9.2 (normal is 11.6 to 15.4 with my lab) and hematocrit is 27.9 (normal is 34 to 45…

Can anyone tell me....
OK, this is going to sound weird and paranoid... I have been doing FOLFOX since April. I had to miss my last two treatments because I was sick. I have two treatments left ( which means if I hadn't got sick I would be done). Anyway, I have been craving mint chocolate cookies like crazy. I read that cancers feed on sugars,…

Trying alternative therapies and eastern medicine after 4 months of uncontrollable colon spasms following takedown of a temporary ileostomy. (See previous posts on this subject on 8/30/06). 5FU Leak
Hi! I've been watching this message board since my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer in May and have found it very helpful. He had surgery, is stage 3 (cancer in one lymph) and is now going through chemo - oxy and 5FU. Everything has been going very well, almost no side effects, until today. His port apparently…

Well...my "gene" Dr. called me today and said...Good news...we found out that the reason for your cancer is that you have Lynch syndrome which is a very rare mutation of hte msh6 gene...I'm still trying to find out where the good news are...the way I see it is that the gene is there..chemo won't kill it and cancer will be…

Chemo causing problems swallowing?
Ok, sounds wierd, but since I had that chemo last Friday I've developed a "block" along the esophogus so that every time I swallow (food or liquid), I feel like it gets caught up in my chest area. It goes through, but it is slightly painful. So is this a chemo-caused thingy or just another odd thing in my personal cancer…

Tired - months after chemo ended
As some of you are aware, I finished 6 mos of FOLFOX last December. (Following surgery for lung met in May 05). Have been doing great since -- had clear PET scans in Jan and July -- working-- exercising fairly regularly. But, I am still tired. I find I need to lie down (nap or at least lie down) for 30 min or an hour every…

Can't Sleep
Geez Louise. It's 4:45 and here I sit online. Have to work in a couple of hours so I guess I'll have another tired day at work to look forward to, eh? It just seems like every night I wake up to go to the bathroom and then I can't get back to sleep. At least the nausea seems to be dying down. I didn't take my meds last…

Hi I'm new here - any suggestions?
Hi, I was diagnosed with rectal cancer with metz to the liver last year. I have had radiation, surgery with permanent ileostomy and, so far, 16 months of chemo. I started with FOLFOX with Avastin, then that quit working so I was switched to Camptosar and Erbetux. That worked well for a bit then no so much. Avastin was…

MRI Friday...8am...
Well, finally, I get to see what is in my head...(hopefully nothing that is not supposed to be!). The only thing that could mess it up is my MediPort....the surgeon can't find the record of what he put in, so he doesn't know whether it contains metal or not....sigh....If it's metal, well, no MRI till after the 26th....when…

Update on decision
Today I am having my pre-op done for my port which will be put in on September 7th. Chemo will begin September 15th. Orginally it was slated to begin September 11th, but I changed the date due to losing my aunt (age 47) two years ago to pancreatic cancer. For some reason I just couldn't do it that day.. We were very close…

Caregiver Has Melt Down
Not a good morning. Going to fix my husband breakfast and phone rings so I answered it. He's impatient and gets eggs out of frig. Now he's tingly. I told him he should have waited for me and he says he didn't think I was going to get them out for him. Who has been taking food out of the frig all this time, yes me. My eyes…
