Has anyone had a DIEP flap reconstruction on just one side, then a second surgery to make the breast
I am new to CSN and to breast cancer. I have surgery scheduled for Friday 11/16/12 for "in situ" CA with immediate reconstruction after a total mastectomy, preserving all the skin and hopefully the nipple. The doctor said if I have a mastectomy rather than a lumpectomy, I will not need radiation or drug treatment and will…

New to the boards, I have a question about implants.
Hi everyone. I had a mastectomy on the right side in August and currently have expanders. I had my last fill in on Friday and will have my implant surgery after the holidays. My plastic surgeon is suggesting saline and I am thinking about silicone. What is the difference in how they feel? Any input will be appreciated.…

CT Scan soon
In March, when I had scans done in anticipation of chemo and then radiation thereapy, the CT scan showed two or three tiny spots in the thoracic region (lymph nodes), but not in any organs. The spots were too small for a PET scan to give any more information about them. Both the oncologist and the radiologist decided to go…

Shingle Shot
I know back when Linda was diagnose with shingle we did have a discussion on the shot to prevent shingles. Has anyone had a shot to prevent shingles since that time? I am on Faslodex and my primary care doctor reply to my wanting it was to "have a note from my oncologist". I just had a flu shot with no problems. Just as…

Chemo or no chemo?
I was diagnosed with IDC, grade 3, 1.3 cm, estrogen negative and I'm facing radiation treatments. Does anyone else have a similar diagnosis? One doctor also suggested chemo and I'm unsure about that.

CT results and shingles update
I had a CT scan last Monday...the initial reading was compared to an older (june) scan instead of the more recent one in August. So it took a while to get complete results. Got the email from the onc...."stable, maybe slight improvement". Two of the lymph nodes are .2mm smaller, the rest remain unchanged. So we will…

OT ~~ Colonoscopy UPDATE
Just found out there is a history with colon polyps in my family. (brother) I am so amazed that family members won't share this sort of information until they are pressed for it. I begged my brother to come by for warmth, a good meal and a hot shower. His power has been out for 9 days due to Hurricane Sandy. While we were…

Good visit with my surgeon
Had my appointment with my surgeon today. After re-reading the PET report, examining me, doing an ultrasound in his office and calling and conferring with my medical oncologist, the feeling is that whatever is showing up on the PET in my left axillary region is post-op in nature from my recent mastectomy. He saw no…

Am on tamoxifen x3 years, and have not menstruated since I started chemo,…

Several weeks ago my friend had a yard sale at my house. Since I have no hair it is obvious I am an onc patient...this woman comes up to me and starts asking me questions. Ovary problem now...
So I had my first pelvic ultrasound to see how the Tamoxifen is treating my uterus after 5 months on the medication. They found that I have a 6 cm growth on my left ovary, probably a dermoid, and now I have to have to have my left ovary and tube removed. I also will need a D&C. If they find any cancer during the surgery…
