Test Identifies Patients Who Benefit From Targeted Drugs

Type:
Web site
Description:

As we enter the era of "personalized" medicine, it is time to take a fresh look at how we evaluate treatments for cancer patients. More emphasis should be put on matching treatment to the patient. Patients would certainly have a better chance of success had their cancer been chemo-sensitive rather than chemo-resistant, where it is more apparent that chemotherapy improves the survival of patients, and where identifying the most effective chemotherapy would be more likely to improve survival.

Poem, Slow Dance

Type:
Book
Description:

SLOW DANCE

Have you ever watched kids

On a merry-go-round?

Or listened to the rain

Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?

Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

Do you run through each day

On the fly?

When you ask How are you?

Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done
!

Do you lie in your bed

With the next hundred chores

Running through your head?

You'd better slow down

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

Ever told your child,

We'll do it tomorrow?

And in your haste,

Not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,

Let a good friendship die

Cause you never had time

To call and say,"Hi"

You'd better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere

You miss half the fun of getting there

When you worry and hurry through your day,

It is like an unopened gift....

Thrown away.

Life is not a race.

Do take it slower

Hear the music

Before the song is over.

What does fishing have to do with cancer?

Type:
Web site
Description:

We have dedicated a portion of our family website, under the UPDATES link, to telling the inspirational story of John's relationship with life, fishing, friends, family and. . .oh, yeah, lung cancer. His is a love story in the deepest sense of the word.

Cancer can teach us that we don't always have control of the outcome, but we always have control of how we choose to embrace each moment of our lives. John embraced every day of his life with enthusiasm, humor, and an open, generous heart. His example lifted caregivers and medical professionals, and everyone else in his life, to a place where they could become their best selves.

We would like to share his story with anyone who is facing the uncertainties of a cancer diagnosis and with it comes our sincere well wishes for you on your own journey.
