2 1/2 year checkup done...

...and all is good - chest x-ray, bloodwork scope and physical examinations.  The only comment of any concern was from the hematology oncologist who said that my neck was a little tight and to keep after the daily stretching because "You don't want to let that slip away".  No scar tissue anywhere, inside or out, and everything is working properly.

I do have one clarification I need to make.  I said in a reply somewhere along the way that I had proton radiation therapy.  Well, I either misheard or misremembered because that was not the case.  I had photon therapy, which is IMRT.  My RO said that he would like to have a proton radiation machine but he's not convinced that it is useful enough to warrant 3 times the cost of IMRT.  In his opinion the best place ti use proton radiation would be in children.  In example, if a child had cancer in the spine the proton therapy would not pass through the effected area and damage other organs.  I forgot to ask him about baroreceptors.  It was on the tip of my tongue, but I must have gotten distracted (doesn't take mush to distract me) and forgot to ask.  But I know that the carotid arery was affected and that after so many years my risk of stroke increases 1%-2%.  I'm not going to worry about something like that since worrying does no good.  I'll take a baby aspirin every other day, or how ever often I can (I bruise terribly when I take apirin) and go about my life.

While I'm at it, Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Eromano, great news on the check up. That's music to our ears. Amen on not worrying I also take an aspirin every other day and live on.

    Awesome news Ed

Glad to hear all is looking good. As you may recall, I am about 4 months behind you in treatment for Tonsil cancer. I agree with your Doc about the neck excercies. They really help keeping things loose. I'm pretty good about doing them on my walks. About the only issue I have recently gotten is a little cricket sound in my ear on the radiated side. Had ringing in the ears up until about 1 year after treatment and then it disappeared. Doc said it is kind of unusual to come back. They are keeping their eye on it. Again, congrats on yout great checkup. Rick

    Great news!

Congrats on the NED! 2.5 years is a milestone. Some of these post-treatment effects will last a long time and can be daunting.

    Thanks, Ag123!  You are right

Thanks, Ag123!  You are right.  These post-treatment effects can range from just little nuances to life-changing, or even life-threatening.  My RO told me right from the get-go that although I can be cured of this particular occurence of cancer, the same treatment that is saving my life can cause cancer itself.  But what can we do but carry on and enjoy the "down time" we have from cancer?  I'm going with carrying on.
