Has someone dealt with Diaphragmatic hernia or hiatal hernia post ivorLewis surgery.

My husband had this kind of hernia twice. And every time it was laproscopically repaired. He had follow up ct scan done after 5 months recently and again small one showing up. This is the third time.

Did anyone here in forum come across this situation that we can learn what activities to avoid and what not to do to avoid?

Though hubby is doing every possible thing and observing precautions but we are at loss. As per doctor this kind of hernia is very common after ivor Lewis surgery all the more in thin people. But I have not come across anyone on this forum.

I would appreciate if someone had this kind of hernia   and we could learn something. It is getting very frustrating to go under general anesthesia every now and then either for endoscopy or repair of hernia.

    Unfortunately diaphragmatic hernias are common

    Hi Loveall,

I have been watching this post in hopes that someone who has had a diaphragmatic hernia might reply. I have had an esophagectomy but fortunately no hernias so far. It is unfortunately rather common for EC surgery survivors. I will say that those who have reported having them have frequently started strenous activities relatively soon after surgery. Many people forget that it takes our body almost a year in many cases to recover from the physical trama of this surgery.

I would recommend that you consider posting your question on Smart Patients web site in the esophagial cancer section at https://www.smartpatients.com/. That site has much more activity and you would have a better chance of getting feedback to your question.

    Best Regards,

    Paul

    Hernia

I am eleven years post esophagectomy and have just had surgery done in March for a Hiatal Hernia with my small bowel, ascending colon and tail of my pancreas inside . Everything went well but it didn't fix the food bolus as we had hoped . I've had a complete revision of my original esophagectomy done in 2017 because of a rare condi called Redundant Conduit. It's been a very rough eight years.
