Hi everyone, my father is on Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) for more than 2 years, he is still good with his memory. I read this article Prostate Cancer Drug Linked To Increased Risk of Dementia, Finds Study.

Has anyone faced this kind of issue by being on Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT)?

Hi there,

The full article is here;
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2737101
What it does show is that there is a correlation between Alzheimers, dementia and ADT.
However it is only a weak correlation and it is more likely that elderly patients will suffer the above as part of the normal aging process.
There is no doubt that ADT is not good for you, it has a large number of side effects of which the most unpleasant is an increased risk of CVE, cardiovascular events, and osteoporosis with some drugs. After those it goes down to sweating, muscular pains, weakness, exhaustion, etc.
All ADT drugs have side effects, some are a lot worse than others.
However they have an undoubted benefit of keeping prostate cancer at bay, in some cases for many years.
The difficult thing for physicians and patients to assess is the balance between the benefits of the drugs in controlling the cancer and the undoubted negative effects on quality and in some cases length of life for the patient.

Best wishes,

Georges
