Scar tissue

Hi I've recently had my 2 year mri following a tiny low to intermediate grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma on the tongue tip removed. My consultant said its a clear scan with the scar tissue having shrunk in size since my scan a year ago. However I read stupidly radiologist report which said area in tip lit up and can't rule out recurrence. I was very upset but consultant assured me that it was scar tissue as it actually had got smaller he then explained about the anatomy of tongue etc. He has told me to come back in year but I still have this niggle regarding what radiologist said just seeing if anyone else has experienced this thank you x

    Have a Second Reading

Nowadays they can access your scan online if they have your permission or I believe they can

put it on a CD disk or Thumb Drive and you will have a copy of it.

I would consult your family doctor and ask him if he is qualified to read it and if not he

can refer you to someone who is qualified to reread your scan and you will then have

    another opinion on it.

This should give you the comfort you need so you aren’t edgy about it.

And if for some reason there is a real issue the sooner dealt with the better.

Who knows you family doctor may be familiar with the folks reading your scan and tell

you to be confidant in the findings and not to worry.

No matter your family doctor I think is a good place to start.

    God Bless-Good Luck

I got appointment for mri through for a years time so just need to put it to bed and trust that they wouldn't leave anything sinister for a year! Thank you so much for the advice x

    MEC Too

I too had MEC, base of tongue.  It is a rare cancer and has a great recovery rate if they get it all.  The chance of recurrance is very low so don't worry too much about that.  If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or ask away.
