Had my first treatment today.. Took awhile to get going because they had to redo my mask. Too much pressure on my adams apple. Once they fix that and cut the mouth out it was a breeze.

My question is I am starting mucus in the back of my throat. Like when you come down with a cold. Is this possible after one treatment?? Or maybe i do have a cold..

I heard about mucus but this seems a little too soon

Friday is first chemo...

I had blood taken today and i told the gal in my 63 years only one time has anyone missed my vein... I told her I hope im not jinxing you..

Well guess what happen she missed the vein... I could only chuckle Maybe next time i just keep my mouth shut lol

    1st rad

Hey dark dancer. I just wanted to let you know that I have mucus now and I have'no started my treatment yet. To say the least it us Very Annoying cause several times a day I spit this mucus up. I don't have a cold either. I think it's part of our illness. U would definitely talk to your doctor about it. And congrats on surviving ur 1st rad treatment. Did they cut ur eyes n nose to for ur mask? My doctor was very concerned about me cause I couldn't "breathe"in the mask. My tumor covers about 85% of my throat area. So he had the nurse cut a big hole to expose my eyes nose and mouth. But the top of the mask very uncomfortable cause it pushes down on me. But I know it's supposed to b like that. Let me know what ur doc says. Mucous is horrible and nasty!!

I dont have any witty words

I dont have any witty words of wisdom or any fix all suggestions. But, I have been there done  that, and dont have a t shirt... but I am still in the mix of this scary new world.

To answer your question, yes mucus is now a big part of your day. But as quickly as it shows up, it can disappear. I was coughing (vomiting) all day for months carrying a garbage pail with me all day, then oneday I didnt cough.. i wasnt sure if i should be happy or scared. No gradual change, just poof..gone.

just stay as strong as you can. Dont worry about things until they happen. .

reach out.. my biggest regret is that i was too strong at the onset and now my family thinks i am ok.

    One Down.

    Dd333,

Mucus on Day one is quick but Suez before treatments is a record.  You don’t want to run out and greet all the side effects early.  Instead, try to act natural and make them say the magic word before they are allowed to make you uncomfortable. Do you have the standard salt, soda and water mixture ready?  It isn’t a magic potion, but it helps to use it all the time to rinse out your mouth and what little of your throat you can.

They may take a blood sample on chemo days, to keep up to speed on your status.

“She Missed The Vein” isn’t a tattoo she wears is  it?

    The good thing about

The good thing about radiation is at least you usually get to get comfortable with the process before any symptoms develop. About weeks 3-5 is when things get a little uncomfortable.
