Large kidney cyst.

Hello everybody,

 

im new here. 32 years old. Im sorry in advanc if my english is bad. So here is my story. About two years ago i had pain on my left banc side under the ribs. Flank pain. I was lifting weights so i thought is related to exercise. I went to my gp and soon i made my first abdominal ultrasound. This showed about 7 cm large cyst that formed from pyelon. As doctor said this was simple cyst. On the picture it looked like two cyst formed in one oval cyst. It supposed to be all fluid, simple cyst. What was interesting was that ureter was also dialated to 1,5 cm and supposed to be ending in my prostate and not blader. radiologist said that this could causing watter filling in kidney. 

later i went to urologist specialist. Basic examination was made first and all seemd ok. Then blood works and urography/urine tests. All fine. Then kidney scintography was made. Tt showed no obstruction and slightly decreassed left kidney function. Nothing drastic. It also showed 7 oval cold mass that supposed to be cyst. Radiolgist told me that this structure was mainly not active during whole procedure with radioactive contrast. Then they made IVU and all looked ok. Renal pelvis and ureters were normal, no obstruction, no visible problems. Urologist than said that this is probably sand or stone, but was never visible. It give mi check in 6 months

my doughter was born 6 months from then So i forgot about my checkup. About month ago i had some flank pains again. For year and a half there were no more pain. Now, year and seven months later i went to ultrasound and doctor told me that cyst is still the same, that it disnt change but also my urether it supposed to be dialated, so as the pyelon or pelvic area. Just like 1,7 years ago. But IVU showed normal size of urether than. So now i went to urologist and he said is a large simple cyst and pain is probabbly due to uroinfection. For few days i had frequent urination with very little water. One time no water at all. after few days it went back normal. 

Im woried sick about this large cyst and condition. Im worried that it could be cancer.

Have anyone had common situation like mine? All advices are highly appreciated

    Hi! Welcome and good question. I had a 6cm cyst on my left kidney as well as several on my remaining kidney. Rest assured that simple cysts show up very clearly on scans with dye. They are full of water so pretty much show up black. Radiologists are very well trained in diagnosing these and trust me...you would see and know if it was not a cyst. I had a cancerous tumor beside my cyst and there is a huge/clear difference!!  Wish I could show you the pictures of mine. I was told by my oncologist that these simple cysts do not turn in to cancer. All the best!!

    When I was diagnosed with a small lesion on my right kidney, the urologic oncologist I was referred to also pointed out some very large cysts on both of my kidneys.  He showed me the CT scans (sone with contrast) that had some very large black spots on both of my kidneys and told me no worries about those.  Then he showed me a tiny little speck of white on the same CT and said "That's what we're going to monitor".  That was December, 2013 and in April, 2016, after almost 2-1/2 years of monitoring, we determined it had grown a tiny bit, so he referred me to a surgeon to get it taken out.

    If your doctor says cysts, there is likely nothing to wory about.  The fact that he's having you get another scan in six months is good too.  That will help to give you some piece of mind.

    Thank you so much for your replys. When I read this forum im in shock how doctors in pur country process us. I have almost 8 cm cyst on my left kidney and after I went to private ultrasound specialist, she said that is simple cyst. But it is almost 8 cm. It is somehow oval shaped. When she clecked my us from year and a half ago she claimed that is the same. And that my pyelon is dialated just as it was, also urether. But IVP year and a half ago showed that renal pelvis and urether is normal. Now when i went to some urologist on my own expenses, he checked this us pictures and sayd is a large cyst. Come back in a year so we can see if it is getting any bigger. First urologist year and a half ago also sayd: its just a cyst  

    No one even mentioned CT scans that supposed to be standard in this cases. I dont understand this. Just ultrasound. Im 32, fresh father and im terryfied in my doubts becouse I dont know what this is. So till now, i went to two ultrasound specialists, and twho different urologists. No one even mentioned CT. I dont understand how this is not looking as little concerning. 

    I dont know what the fword should I do anymore. I guess even private urologist dont take me seriously.
