When does the blood test become normal??

Hello ladies,

I haven't been here for a while, and I hope all of you beuatiful people are

doing well out there!

I have a question about my husband's blood test, but let me give you a brief

information about my husdband's cancer history. 

My husband was diagnosed with a male breats cancer stage 3C in December, 2015

and then had operation in January 2016, and then 6 month-long AC and Taxol

and then 8 weeks long radiation. When we saw his oncologist in February, 2017,

I remember he said that my husband's blood test came out well enough, but

nowhere to be close to be normal. After he saw his new onc (the old one moved out

of  town) again in September, 2017, he  told me that she was happy about his blood

test and everything looked good (I couldnot be there with him, damn it, otherwise

I would have asked many questions!)

 

Meanwhile, my husband started working and went back to his job at sea (he is

a maritime engineer). He just started a new job a few weeks ago and he needed to

pass a physical test which includes blood test. The doctor who took blood test was

worried that his test came out abnormal and he through it might be related to benzine

exposure (my husband worked in benzine environment many years). He ordered the test

again, then when the result came out, he told my husband's HR manager that his

numbers came out in better range this time, but he advises us to see his primary

doctor as his blood test came out still abnormal.

 

So, I am just so worried, and I am wondering if there is any possibility he is still

having blood abnormality issues related to his chemo that finished about 15 months ago.

How long does it take for your blood to recover from chemo? Is 15 months

enough? Do you guys have any idea?

 

We won't see his oncologist until next Feb and I am just really worried and

actually thinking about calling him.

    I think a call to his Oncologist regarding the blood work done through Hubby's work and their concerns.  Also to be sure that his ONC was aware of the years of work in a "benzine invironment". I have no idea of what years of exposure to a benzine invironment could mean but to my uneducated mind (uneducated on benzine at least) might be a subject to investigate the possible potentials.

    My blood work was within 'normal' throughout my 4 DD A/C neoadjuvant and 12 weekly Taxol adjuvant.   I did have a problem with very low K (potassium) 6 weeks into Taxol but easy handled with potassium pills.  It was 8 yrs ago that I was doing Taxol and still good blood work.

    To me, as the HR suggested seeing a PCP, the first would be logical to be sure that the ONC was talked to/discussed with the benzine exposure if he was my Husband. 

    Ya'll do need to find answers.  There are so many possibilities but does need to be addressed as to the reasons.

    ABNORMAL BLOODWORK

    First off, your husband should never have to "wait" to see his oncologist if he/you are concerned about something. You should be able to at least talk to the doc over the phone or be seen in the office, if his doc is extremely busy maybe they have a physician's assistant that he can see or talk to about your concerns. 

    Also, you didn't say what numbers were off on your husband's blood panel. I know for me, and it was a long time ago so I don't recall how long it took to go back to normal, but I had abnormal white blood counts and I had low iron from the radiation. 

    I'm sure everything is fine, but don't fret, get a copy of the bloodwork results from his job physical and have him give his onc a call. You'll feel better that you got it resolved. Good Luck.
