Head Breaking Out - Day 29

Options

I had my 2nd round of chemo Oct 25th. Most of my hair is gone; but I have not shaved my head as yet. Today - my head has exploded in small pimples. I have been washing it every other day and keep it covered by a chemo cap during the day.

Im looking for suggestions how to care for my noggin.

Thanks!

    Follliculitis

Folliculitis is a common chemo side effect. I used a special chemo shampoo (Amazon) and blotted my head with vinegar 1-2 time/day. I smelled pickle-y for a few minutes afterwards but it really calmed things down. I got the vinegar tip from this board; others have suggested peroxide but the vinegar worked for me. Congratulations on successfully completing two rounds!

My doctor gave me an antibiotic cream. I like the idea of vinegar if it will work for you! I hope you are doing ok on your treatments otherwise.

I cut my hair short with scissors, never shaved it.  Wore caps to bed still do.  I found moisture milks VO5 with soy milk protein worked for me.  It soothed my scalp.

Hope you find something that helps.

    cream

I had those as well and my Dr. gave me a prescription for cream that worked well. Once all the hair was gone the bumbs went a way. I used baby shampoo and now use Aveno products .

    Thank You

As always, thank you all for sharing! It's Nov 15th today and I type this as i'm getting my third round (of 6). My bumps are still here, despite using the vinegar/water solution and an aragon oil on my scalp. They're not painful, just unsightly. I will have to grab some Aveeno too next time I'm shopping.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

    Hugs,

    Ethel

    Wash brushes regularly

I had the same thing happen.  When I am home alone, I will go without a head covering and let my scalp breathe.  If it is sunny and not too cold outside, I try to sit in the sunshine and expose my scalp (only for a few minutes due to photosensitivity due to chemo and risk for sunburn)  wash anything that comes in contact with the scalp regularly from chemo caps to wigs, and if you are still using a brush, be sure to wash and let it dry as well.  With time the bumps will decrease in number.

    I used straight vinegar right

I used straight vinegar right from the bottle. I also used Alra shampoo, which was developed for chemo patients. I got it on Amazon. All those things helped but honestly the bumps never entirely went away, it's all part of the Chemo Curse. Congratulations on being halfway through!
