Getting a bit anxious. My 3 ½ year follow up scans and x-ray are on Thursday then I see the doc on Friday to discuss scan results. Leaving for NY tomorrow. I wish it was next week already. Hate this edgy nervous feeling.

Thank you Fox! You're the greatest. How did your discussion regarding plan go with the Doc last Friday?

Hi Apny,

Sorry to hear that you have a worry with the nodule. I am praying for the best possible outcome for you, friend! I know the stress and the worry can sometimes be the most difficult part! We are all here for you!

Big hugs

Jojo

Hi Apny,

are x-ray results uploaded on the portal? I'm kinda believing that it will be the same nodule as on the old CT. So in this case all the questions will be answered and there will be no need to scan again.

Thinking of you!

Jojo, thanks so much. Big hugs back! Allochka, yes, I'm hoping for that too. Stupid x-ray not up yet only the kidney scan. Which is great so I can at least be happy for that.

I'm confused.  I thought your doctor was having you come back for a CT scan, but you said you got the kidney scan results and are waiting for the xray.  Did your have a chest CT or chest xray?  Normally, for RCC, they do chest CT's, not xrays because xrays can miss lung nodules.  Sometimes they do xrays instead for people who are young and have low risk of recurrence in order to minimize radiation exposure.  Otherwise, I would question why your aren't always getting chest CT's.

Anyway, I hope you get your results soon and that they are good news!

My follow up protocol was always kidney US and chest x-ray, twice a year for the first 3 years and now once a year. I had the US which was fine but x-ray picked up a nodule which he said was nothing to worry about and he's not concerned, and we'll do a chest CT next year when I go back for the next checkup. Then he called about an hour after I had left the office and said we should do the CT scan now instead of waiting till next year. Since I'm now living in Florida and the tests were done up at Sloan Kettering, he said I can have it done down here. Which I'm going to do as soon as I get the request for CT from SK.

They posted the results of the US first and finally the x-ray today. It says "questionable vague left lower lobe nodular consideration. CT of chest may be considered for evaluation. Cardiomediastinum unremarkable. Pelura: no effusion."

Apny,

With the little reading I have done about my small nodules it is less of a concern in the lower lobe. Hopefully not a nodule and if it turns out to be it is very small and benign.

Thanks Iceman. I'm hoping too. And it was great talking with you on the phone the other day. Really helped :)

This might be inappropriate but here goes, I have heard of people having what appears to be a vague looking lower nodule on xrays that turns out to be a dense nipple.  Sorry, I know it is bit much to put out there online but I thought that if it in any way might give you a less scary option, or a laugh, then I would go for it.

I am sorry to hear the additional stress that you are having, but I recalled a well known oncourologist said that a tumor with your size rarely comes back (none from his hospital) and lung nodule can also be some benign object. All the best APny!

Apny, do you have description of your old chest CT, done in 2004? was the discovered nodule also in lext lower lobe?

Sandy, not inappropriate. I'll take a dense nipple over a nodule any day. Let's hope! Lobbyist, that's what I'm hoping too. Thanks so much. Allochka, it was in the left lung but upper lobe. Go figure. That's obviously gone. That too was discovered via x-ray in 2004 and so they sent me for the CT scan. I'm hoping this too turns out to be nothing. I'm still waiting for damned request from Sloan so I go and schedule the CT appointment here. I'm going to call them today and ask what's taking it.

S...t, I was almost sure it would be the same nodule. But as you see, it does happen and mean nothing sinister. I hope this would be the case again. You'll get through this !

I agree with Alla, if your doctor thought that it could possibly be anything of concern, he would never had said to wait a year in the beginning.  And we really don't know what he is thinking, he might be concerned that you have an infection or something far less scary than what our minds immediately go to.

That's what I keep hoping. That he would never have thought to wait a year if he suspected something. So I'm hoping he's just making sure he's on top of things just in case. I'm so greatful for the poeple here. I can always count on you to talk me off the ledge.

Stick to this idea Apny, it really seems rational.
