Rectal cancer stage IV and spread to abdominal walls

Hi there, My husband just got another diagnosed that his cancer is return and spread to his abdominal walls. Last year he had rectal cancer stage 4, he was in the clear stage for couples months. But now, the rectal cancer is back more aggressively with stage 4 and spread to his abdominal walls. Thr problrm is he have open wound on his abdominal, we cant start the treatments for his cancer till his wound is heal. Do you know any good treatments for this cancer? Or the newest treatments to fight this?? His survival rate is 1 or 2 years, lucky if he can stay more..are there's any survivors out there with this type of cancer? please help us!!! Im so worry, we have 10 years old son that so worry about his dad.. thank you!

    Welcome to the forum

    I am sorry to hear of your husbands diagnosis. 

    Don't listen to survival rates. They are just statistics and can be beat. Just have a positive attitude that he can beat it, and you won't waste time worrying about him being gone (well, not so much worrying. Can't get totally free of worry). 

    There are many stage IV survivors here on the forum, I am one of them.  Your husband can be one of them. 

    Visit here often and you will get the strenght and help you need.

    I had an infection in my

    I had an infection in my incision after the surgery to remove my tumour. I had to wait for chemo until it healed, too. Is his on the outside or inside? Mine was a huge, gaping wound that had a tunnel the size of a man's large finger that all had to heal shut. I went every day at first and then every scond day as it healed so they could pack it. It actually healed quite quickly, much faster than I would have thought considering the size of it. Maybe they can do that? 

    But yes, they won't start chemo until that's healed. He will lose much of his ability to fight infection and to heal and his immune system will be compromised. I think they figure that it's better to wait for the infection to heal because a person can die and quite quickly from an infection. Cancer can wait for a bit.

    Hi Jan,

    He have wound on his abdomen vertical line, around 15 cm long. He have pretty deep cut, cuz we have to pack it wet to dry pack. He been in the hospital more then 2 week, and doctor said that he have some infection on his wound.

    I am sorry that this is back.  My husband is currently in having his mop up chemo for rectal cancer.  I feel that when this is over it won't really be over because I will always have that fear of the "big C" returning.  We have a 12 yr old and 14 yr old.  I know this has got to be hard for you helping him through this and taking care of your child.   Try not to look ahead too much and focus on what is in front of you today....easier said than done.  Like Trubit said, there are many stage IV success stories and hoping that he is one of them!

    That is such a sad story about your huband.  I'm not able to give you any information to help but I'm wishing him well and I'd always get a second opinion if its possible.  Don't ever give up hope and don't go by what the doctor's tell you about years.  Once you find a doctor you believe in, go with it and believe that there is a future.  Wishing him well.
