Practical Matters

I am trying to get ready and get everything I will need for the summer of chemo because I don't have anyone to help me here. Is there anything anyone suggests that I have in the house? I have set up online grocery ordering and delivery.

Also, can anyone recommend a good electric razor that actually works to shave legs? I have 2 and they don't do a darn thing.

Thanks for any tips.

If you lose your hair you wont need the razor.  That is awesome you set up grocery delivery.  You are on it!

    Independent Lady

Beep, I am a stubbornly independent person and I can't change now. My daughter wanted to take FMLA and be here. She lives a few hours away and works. I told her no, no, no. I didn't have any help last time and I am going to try .  If I have to , I can hire someone down the road. Hopefully, I won't need to.

    Electric razor

annie, last time I had chemo, I did not lose my hair and it is summer soon and I don't want hairy legs, so I am getting a good electric razor. I may not lose hair. We'll see.

    House cleaning/yard work

I would ask around your community for a trusted person that does house cleaning.  Merry Maids is great but expensive.  Hopefully you can find somebody that doesn't charge much and have them come in twice a month.  I would also look for a young person in your neighborhood if you have yard work and offer them a regular job.

    Shower Chair

One of the main side effects during my chemo was fatigue. There were some days where it was a tremendous  effort just to take a shower. I found that having a chair to sit on in the shower was a big help. Saved my energy for where it was really needed.

    Shower chair

Thanks JessiesMom, I do have a shower chair in the basement from the last time I had chemo. Good idea, I will clean it up today. I almost gave it away last fall, thinking that I would never need it again. Hah! Ever the optimist!

No razor needed, you lose your hair!

Their were some benefits!  I had the hardest time losing my eyelashes, the rest was easy, and I only shave my legs now

maybe 4x a year.  Even hair on arms is so slight now....  but when they put me on a heavy duty dose of steroids, I went to a beauty store and got scraper things for my face, it was so harry, good thing it was white.  That cracked me up!  But it disappeared when they stopped the steroids.  Some things were kind of funny.

    Hairy face....

Oh, joy, just what I need is a hairy face.  Last time I had chemo, they told me that I would lose hair and I didn't. Not feeling so lucky this time, but not looking forward to a furry face. Oh, well, maybe the new cat will bond with me when she sees that I have fur too!

    Shave

It was fun while it lasted but the hair comes back.   Since I can no longer have my BP taken in the arms, they have to take it on the lower leg so prior to going, I now have to shave a leg.  LOL

    hairy face

when my hair first started coming in, I did get a fury face on the sides and I freaked out a little.  NO alot.  But I waited and it fell off after a month.  So if that does happen, hang on, this too shall pass.

    Hugs,
