Pain meds after port insertion

Options

I had a port inserted on Monday. I was told to take Tylenol for pain.

Today is Saturday. I've been taking Tylenol PM to help me sleep. It's not working.

is it ok to take Advil PM now?

Thanks

HI! I can't answer your question because I don't have a port...yet.  I hope that you are ok and feeling a little better. Maybe you could call the nurse line tomorrow.   I am not looking forward to a port in my chest. I hope it is not too painful for you! Hang in there!  Wishing you a pain free day today!!!!!

    I had a port, but I didn't

I had a port, but I didn't have pain that required medication. I just thougt it was uncomfortable for a while.  It is going to come in quite handy if you're have chemo treatments and you'll be glad you did it.  I would say, give it a few more days and you'll only think about it on treatment days when you're applying your numbing cream. If Advil is a med you use regularly, I wouldn't see any harm in taking it now. Best wishes.

    Port

The port was a little sore when they put it in and two days later they accessed it for my first chemo.   Sometimes it gets sore, sometimes it dont.  I have had it in a year and I love it.  Get my blood test from there too.  When mine got sore, I took tylenol and put some ice on it for about 20 min.   Try not to sleep on the port side right now as it is sore for you.  but it will be ok after awhile you will ignore it.
