Biopsy

I was just diagnosed with uterine cancer. My doctor on the day of biopsy set up an appointment for a mammogram. When I got result I had to go back for a diagnostic mammogram and ultasound that they had seen a mass in my left breast.During the diagnostic mammogram the tech commented that it was not compressing so off to ultrasound I went. The tech doing the ultrasound could not find the mass ,it's tiny,so she called in the radiologist and he could not find it.When they finished looking he said we could wait six months and see but that he really did'nt feel comfortable doing that so he was going to recommend a biopsy.Well, okay but he also said my gyn oncologist would want to know this so he could manage my uterine cancer chemo to go along with additional breast cancer chemo.I did not let on but this upset me because is he so sure by what he saw on mammogram that I have cancer?I thought only a biopsy could tell that for sure. They also set me up with a nurse navigator,I thought a navigator was for a known cancer patient. So I don't have a biopsy result back yet and I'm already on chemo with a nurse navigator.Confused and scared.

    vickiemarieb,

    vickiemarieb,

I am really sorry for what you are going through.  I am new to all of this, I was just diagnosed on March 5th with Breast Cancer, but I went through something similar with my mamogram results, and the doctor's not being able to see things clearly enough.  I am praying for you.  Please let me know if I can help in any way.

    Hi Vickiemarie,

    Hi Vickiemarie,

Stick close to your nurse navigator and make her/him aware that you want all information available.  I had 2 mamograms and an ultrasound that revealed a small mass and a biopsy confirmed it was cancer.  "It's stage !, pea sized", my surgeon said. When I had the surgery, they discovered a 0.5 cm tumor in situ and an additional 6.1 cm IDC tumor. So I went in Stage 1 and came out Stage 3.  The larger tumor NEVER showed up on any mammogram or ultrasound and I had at least 3 more before the surgery. I know it's hard, but try to be patient and hold out for the biopsy. If they're lagging on it, speak up.  You're already on chemo (which I think is good), so I don't think you're in a bad place. Plus you have a professional coordinating your treatments.  Stay strong and try to be as informed as possible.  I Googled everything!  All the best wishes!

    Thank you

Thanks to all who replied to my post.I did not mean that I was already on chemo but that the radilogist seemed so sure it was cancer that he was planing for chemo in his scenario.I'm sorry if I was confusing,I'm just scared. How do you deal with two cancers at once?I don't know.

You deal with it the same as with one

I was told they just  hanged up the cocktail.  The radiologist told me I had idc bc when he did the ultrasound and looked at the mammogram, all within an hour of my mammo appointmen.

when I walked out in a fog, I called one of my sisters, she said he can't dx you.  Well he did and showed me on the us.  The edges of the tumor were jagged  like when we were little and  mare a sun with the jaggaed edges , not smooth.  He just told me to go to a bc surgeon.  I asked how do I find one, then he wrote down 3.  Fastest appointment was 12 weeks out.  BS.  Don't tell me I have cancer but no doctors can see me? so I called our family Dr.  He said if it was his brother ice he would send her to a specific bc Dr.  I called her and so did he and I saw her the next day. Friday.

Put me out for biopsy Tuesday, woke me and said I needed a mastectomy, couldn't get clear margins.  put me back to sleep and 7 days later had Mastectomy.  I was fortunate, she was wonderful!

Always remember, it is your body, your disease, they give you info and options and YOU have the ultimate say.  It is your journey, so make sure you have really trust your doctors as you are putting your life in their hands.  My Onco nurse told me this from the beginning and when I changed doctors, she helped me as mine as anted to do hospice almost ; years ago when I hadn't to start Medi-care and I was not ready physically or mentally.

Now when I did start it, it was time and she told me I would know....   and I did!

Best to you and listen to your body!

    Your biopsy...

    Hi Vickie,

It's good that you had a mammogram and that whatever needs to be biopsied will be. It doesn't mean that you'll necessatily need chemo for it. First they need to see what this tumor is all about. I wouldn't just take the word of the mammogram tech on that! Wait until you get an actual diagnosis on the breast issue.

Even though it seems like a double whammy now, I think you're fortunate that this small breast  tumor was found when it was. Now your doctors can come up with a plan that will take both matters into consideration. You have to think of the positives.

The nurse navigator is there to oversee your medical care, whatever that entails. She's a plus to have in your corner as you can contact her with your concerns and also she can explain things to you more if you need that. Sometimes it's hard to get ahold of the doctors. Having her will be a good thing.

Have faith that your situation will be resolved in a beneficial way.

Let us know how things go. Wishing you strength and prayers!    Kats2
