My moms colostomy surgery was booked for next Tuesday but her diabetes has been out of wack a1c of 10 and running blood sugars of 250. Her dr said she would never heal preperly with her sugars like that he wants  postpone for 3/4 weeks. Her pet scan came back clear for any lymph node or matastis is waiting that long could it spread that fast?

    Swood

I know the urgent feeling of wanting to get something done ASAP but I really don't think her cancer will metastasize during that time. It is really important to have your mom in good shape when she gets surgery. I'm so sorry you have this added stress. Tell your mom there are people on this site wishing her the best and thinking of her.

I know you and your mom are disappointed about this delay, but it is wise to avoid any potential complications.  I send best wishes to you both!

    Nervous

i would be too if it was my mom. It must mean her sugars have been better since they scheduled it ,so that's forward progress. I'm sure waiting this long for surgery has been stressful. In November I had a gallbladder attack in the wee hours of Tuesday and the surgeon told me he could either take the gallbladder out the next day or wait several weeks because of his schedule. I picked the next day just to get it over with! Sometimes the dreading is worse than the actual thing. Thanks for keeping us updated on your mom. I will be thinking good thoughts for both of you for May 9!

    Ask for advice

Hey Swood, my advice to you is that you ask a doctor (preferably the oncologist) for all the advice you can get on building up your mum's strength prior to the operation. I'm talking about diet etc. I know that you are nervous, and I was too when this happened to my mum almost 2 years ago, but please believe me it does get better. My mum is going to Ireland tomorrow. Stay strong.
