Wow. I never thought in 2012 that I would get to read an article like this. Who would have guessed. Of course this doesnt mean I'm out of the woods but it is encouraging to have my medical support system (UMHS) blog about our story!

    Sounds similar to my story.  When they realized I had CC, it looked like it had spread, but could not be confirmed.  If they did a biopsy at the time, they would have known it was in my lungs.  But was just THIS small for it.  Though suspect.

    It grew after chemo done.  Had lung resection.  8 months out from that.  I am thinking all positive now and your story helps.

    Congratulations!  U of M is one of the best.  I was at the Cancer Center last Wednesday for a suspicious breast mass.  They truly leave no stone unturned.  I was one of he lucky ones, not a cancerous breast mass but a cyst, after extensive images and ultrasound.   The radiologist explained everything in detail.  I left feeling confident in their diagnosis.   This has happened in the past but nonetheless scary waiting for the appointment and results.

    Again, congratulations on your NED status and the article.

    Great article

    Hi Phil - What a great article about some of your journey.  The Cancer Center and its Oncologists sound like some of the very best. You're very lucky to have had such a wonderful cancer team and NED status.  Always encouraging to read the positive results you had. Gives all hope.  Thank you Phil.

    Phil, 

    I am so happy for you to be cancer free for 2 years!  It looks like you predicted that you would be cured in your original blogs.  So glad you shared the story from the cancer center where you were treated. 

     It was especially great to read the doctors remarks that 5 to 10% of stage 4 colon cancer patients will not need to be on maintainence chemo forever.  I have stage 4 colon cancer and have been on the xeloda and avastin since July 2016.  My doctors say I will be on it for the rest of my life.  I hope that is not the case.  Even though the side effects are manageable, I am sure the chemo takes a toll on one's health and is not good to be on it for several years.  I have searched for information from anyone who has been on the xeloda long term and haven't found much yet. 

    Seeing you and the others on here who have been NED for years brings hope to me that one day I will be there too.

    I think that is an important

    I think that is an important reminder to us all.

    And I hope and pray that our doctors will get smarter, sooner, so they can PREVENT almost all cases, and CURE a much higher number of cases!!!
