Fertility-preserving options for endometrial adenocarcinoma in 36 year old

I was diagnosed this week with endometrial adenocarcinoma, figo grade 1, arising in a background of endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (atypical hyperplasia) from D&C. I am 36 and got married 6 months ago and have been trying to get pregnant; neither of us have ever had children and I've never been pregnant. My BMI is normal at 20 and I have always been very active with running, cycling, swimming, etc. Has anyone in a similar situation been diagnosed with this and been able to subsequently get pregnant? Any thoughts on hormonal treatment for preserving fertility?

Also, the MRI said I didn't have endometrial cancer, but did find adenomyosis. Has anyone had adenomyosis AND adenocarcinoma, or had discrepency in the MRI versus pathology reports?

Any information or experiential advice would be most helpful. I have a meeting with the gyn onc tomorrow to discuss options, but want to come prepared with a good understanding of options and questions in advance.

    Hi Catherine, I have no information to share regarding ways to preserve your fertility but wanted to encourage you to remain hopeful. Your gyn-onc will certainly talk to you about all of the options and don't be afraid to get a second or third opinion. It breaks my heart that you are going through all of this at such a young age. But the good news is that because you are young, your body is strong and will be able to bounce back from whatever comes your way. Good luck to you and let us know how it goes at your appointment.

    Hi Welcome to our board.  I was diagnosed with Uterine cancer last may at age 43, but when I was 20 I was diagnosed with hodkins Lymphoma (cancer). My doctor at the time did tell me that I might have trouble getting pregnant.  Although I was told by my infertility doctors that wasnt the case when I did have trouble getting pregnant, they could not find any reason to not get pregnant other than one issue that did cause total infirtility.  I did never get pregnant.  I adopted two kids in my thirties.  I have talked to women with that same cancer who did get pregnant though.  I know how much it stinks to get cancer at a young age and it is not fun at the time.  My life is ggod now.  I dont regret how it went.

    Hey Catherine,

    I am 33 and was diagnosed in December.  My OBGYN wanted me to consider the hormone treatment to preserve fertility, but it wasn't the right decision for me.  I didn't want to take the risk of recurrance that was more advanced when my prognosis with surgery was so good (grade 1, stage 1 adenocarinoma).  Turns out I already had invasion of the myometrium so I wasn't a candidate for hormone treatment anyway.  She did refer me to a fertility specialist and I went through the egg retrieval process prior to my surgery last week.  I don't know of anyone personally that got pregnant after the cancer diagnosis but I do know the research studies show it is possible.  If you have any questions about freezing eggs/embryos I can definitely help you with that.

    Catherine, Im so sorry I didnt clearify very well.  I talked to people who had my first cancer Hodgkins lymphoma, that got pregent.  I hope I didnt get your hopes up.  Sorry again.  I hope the very best for you.
