Throat pain again!!!!

Can somebody help? I was diagnosed with stage 1 throat cancer in June 2016. My last of 32 radiation treatments was in August. By december i was healing well. I started eating most anything all though i still had trouble with bread and dry products. I was on the road to recovery. The week after new years i started having bad throat pain again. I had two scopes done. Both said cancer gone but my voicebox was swollen again hence not much voice again and my throat with some thrush spots. Its been a month and a half anf im still suffering with the pain. It feels like nerve pain when i swallow. Its around the back of my tongue and up where my tongue presses against the roof of my throat when i swallow. Has anyone ever had this happen?  Could it be nerve and muscular? I dont understand it. Ive lost 40 pounds total. The doctor has me on hydrocodone and mouthwash agsin. Will it ever get better?

    throat pain

    Hi Dawnra,

My husband is 2.5 months post radiation and his throat/tongue are still killing him.  ALthough he never had the pain subside, he now has ear pain that radiates down his jawline.  It is so frustrating, because it seems like the doctors don't know what to do about it.  I understand your frustration and worry.  They did schedule a CT scan for my husband next week, but as far as the pain in his throat and tongue, they basically told him "everyone heals at different speed".

I see that no one else responded to you, so I am guessing there aren't many people who have this problem.  I also posted a few days ago about my husband's ear pain and got no responses... maybe you (and my husband) are a few of the people who have this pain linger for such a long period of time.

My husband lost 75 pounds and does not have a peg tube.  He is 6' and can't afford to lose any more.

Best of luck to you.  I hope you get some answers soon.  If you do, please share.

    I still have some pain...

Hi, I'm 2 months post treatment (chemo and radiation) and still have some throat pain around the area where the tumor was. It is not constant, but every once in awhile I get sharpe pain and sometimes it is related to movement of my head in different directions. I think it is just my body trying to put things back in order and heal. I have a good freind that had the exact same cancer about 4 months ahead of me, so he is my "go to" for information. He has the same pains and is doing fine. I do recommend you speak to your doctor about it just in case.

Do you know his dose and

Do you know his dose and amount of weeks he had treatment?  Was it RT with chemo?

    Throat pain...

i am a 74 yr old female and was diagnosed with HPV-OPC last September.  By November I decided on the treatment options, and chose low dose radiation at UVA Hosp.  Radiation was over on Dec 23.  At that time was taking morphine am and pm with oxycodone every 4 hrs.  By February it was impossible to eat due to extreme throat and tongue pain.  Lost 35 pounds.  The extreme pain turned out to be candida and was finally cured with meds.  After that, about 3 weeks ago I went off all meds.  Now feeling more clear, however, more tired than ever and my throat pain is considerable.  Final PET Scan Mar 23, apt with radiologist & surgeon Mar 28.  This message board is a big help in understanding the length of healing and all the complications, since we are not told about these lengthy events at the beginning of treatment.  Any information about anyone's throat pain and fatigue will be appreciated.

My pain lasted about a year, that I had to take long and short acting moephine. My treatment( Rt) finished early July 2016. After that my mouth and troat staryes healing. But than in August pain started to get worsw again. Drs found big ulcers and candida infection. Healing of ulcers took a year, so the pain.
