Sorry for TMI

Hey all!

I began treatment for anal squamous cell carcinoma (3 cm tumor and possible involvement of one node) on 1/16/17. I have had one round of mitomycin/5FU and 8 radiation therapy sessions so far. I had a somewhat hard stool today, and noticed a little bit of blood. Could this be due to inflammation from radiation or is this a more serious issue that I need to discuss with my doctor? (I plan to tell him regardless, but wasn't sure how urgent it is). Thanks in advance for any/all advice and again, sorry for TMI.

I'm sure this happens quite often during treatment.  In fact, I had some bleeding during treatment.  Regardless, do report this to your doctor.  And no, this is not TMI.  It is a logical question and your concern is understandable.  Trust me, we've talked about all kinds of things here.  I hope your doctor reassures you that this is nothing of concern.  Hugs!

    TMI

That might be tmi for people who haven't been through it, but not for people who have had the treatment! It's just par for the course. I had bleeding (not heavy) all through my treatment. It pretty much stopped for a few weeks after treatment and then I got radiation proctitis with more blood. I'm a year out and still get occasional blood in stools. Sounds crazy but I read several places that you can become lactose intolerant after pelvic radiation and a couple weeks after I changed to lactose free milk my diarrhea and blood in stools got a lot better. I'm sorry you have to go through this, but glad you found this forum for support!
