in Colorectal Cancer #1

Got PET results back.  Between all the factors, including increase in size and this bad boy lighting up a bit, looks like it is time for wedge on the lungs. They are working on getting appointment with thoracic surgeon for me in the next week or so.  But overall very positive, in a location that is hopefully easy to work on with just a scope and nothing else showed up on MRI or PET.  Still could be benign when it is said and done.  Also thinks that no chemo will be needed.

    My mum would have said "Damn and blast it!"

    It does feel like a punch in the gut, when you know there is more surgery and/or treatment ahead. 

    You know I'm thinking of you.  

    Keep up that positive spirit, but do allow the emotions to flow.

    I sort of saw it coming.  Way back when half of my lymph nodes had cancer, I figured this was more than remote.  Though I did think perhaps I was in the clear when they decided to move me to six months scans.  (The MRI was scheduled for November, first six month one, but get moved in light of other cancer and CEA rising.  To make sure I was clear to address THAT one.  :) )  

    And there was only one spot that seems to be an issue.  In a good spot to get removed.  Only one.  I know in the grand scheme of things all of this could be a lot worse.  Yeah, it does sting a bit.  And in certain ways a bit more than the initial diagnosis.  I guess.  I do not mind the discomfort, but I always seem to feel like &***^&^ after waking up and in recovery room.  For some reason that part sticks on my mind more than anything on the last surgery and a couple of minor surgeries I have had through the years.  The general post surgery discomfort while healing is more of a distant thing, the recovery room, clear as a bell.  Kind of messed up :)

    I'm sorry to hear that but glad it's treatable. Have they considered radiation?

    Hi,

    I'm very sorry to read your update and glad that you are feeling positive.  Isn't it funny how those crummy hospital memories rear their ugly head :(

    Just wondered what kind of details or decision making goes into whether you would have chemo again?  How will you decide?

    Not Sure Yet

    Meeting with surgeon next week.  Based on the size and location the preliminary feedback seems to be that surgery to remove it is probably the option.  It is still small and in an easy spot to get to.  The oncologist (as he says) is not a surgeon, but the reports and his general thoughts are a scope procedure is probably doable without the more extensive surgery.

    Will Need To Speak To Onc More

    He and I had a conversation over the phone, and I am sure there will be a face-to-face at some point.  His general feeling was that I already went through one round of chemo and at this point more may premature/not needed.  At this time all the other suspect things have not changed since I ended chemo.  Or so it seems.  If it is just this one spot that is a problem, the surgery may be all that is needed.  Or maybe the chemo has done all it will do and no further benefit is to be had?  Will get into detials with him.

    It does seem focused.  As I mentioned to Andrea, not quite sure fully of why no chemo, but I certainly like the way you are looking at it.  I am going to run with that one Cool  If one more somewhat minorish surgery and no chemo is the end of the fun and games, can't complain based on what I was looking at a year and a half ago.

    Two years four months

    That is when I had surgery for my liver met, with no chemo. So, its definitely doable. And how wants or needs more chemo, if the good Doctor thinks you will be fine.
