Of colon cancer and brain mets

in Colorectal Cancer #1

There isn't a lot of info out there on mCrc brain tumors, except that the prognosis is poor.. A search on this site pulled up Kerry S (Attitude,Attitude,Attitude). Such a character he was!

The longer survival of mCrc patients means the incidence of brain mets is increasing.

 

Seven and half years after diagnosis,  1.5 cm tumor was found in Robert's left frontal lobe.  He had become lethargic, confused, nauseated. A trip to ER and a CT scan later gave us the news. 

We're waiting for the radiation oncologist to come by with the treatment plan.

    Sad news!

    I am sorry for the new diagnosis.  How your hearts must ache. 

    I am reminded of a quote by Victor Hugo 'Hope is the word which God has written on the brow of every man'. 

    Let us hope, pray, and do what it takes to knock the socks off this tumour and send it into oblivion.

    So very sorry for this development.

    Yes, Kerry was one of a kind.  As I recall he had full brain radiation.  The treatment left him with some "relearning" to do, but perhaps bought him a little more time.  There was also Eric who was from Texas.  I don't beleive he had treatment.  Jennie (Idlehunters) had cyberknife for her brain mets, which gave her about a month.    There may well have been others but these three come to mind.

    Let us hope that with the passage of time, treatments have improved, and there is more time than you think.

    My dad had two pretty large

    My dad had two pretty large brain mets from colon cancer that were found back in March. After 10 treatments of whole brain radiation, they are gone. Some people respond extremely well to radiation therapy and some do not. My dad refused surgery and opted for radiation instead and so far so good. Side effects were complete hair loss, extreme fatigue, and loss of appetite. Fatigue is now getting better and his appetite is SLOWLY coming back. If the WBR didn't work, they were going to do cyberknife to get rid of the remainder, but at this time, there's nothing to cyberknife. 

    Confusion is definitely there, but getting better each day. 

    I'm not sure where he's being treated, but definitely inquire about cyberknife, ESPECIALLY with one met.

    Heart rending

    Our friend Lisa went into the hospital for a check-up, they decided to keep her, she slipped into a coma and died four days later.  if we could all be so lucky. 

    That really hurt to read about Kenny's final days. They were almost exactly like my father-in-laws. So long and painful.

    Is the plan. I call tomorrow to set up consult with neuro surgeon. They  mapped out his treatment while he was in the hospital. 

    Steroids have helped with the symptoms but has sent his blood sugar thru the roof. He's having to take insulin shots now. 

    I'll be glad when we get these tx scheduled

    A plan...

    is always a good thing. 

    I hope they jump on it quickly and get hubby back to normal.
