I lost 1/4 of my jaw, the lower left including the hinge.  It took 2 surgeries to get clear margins.  Mine was replaced with a titanium plate.  I've heard of several people having it replaced with bone from their leg.  I hope your surgery went well!!!

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I know someone who had bone removed from his leg and he's almost at his 5th year cancer free.

    My husband had this surgery

My husband had this surgery in Feb. 2012.  He had some initial surgical complications, but has had no other issues since.  He still has the titanium plate as extra support for his fibula.  At this time, there hasn't been any talk of removing it.

    Good Luck!

    plate removal ????

I have plates holding my bones together in the jaw and my doctor said they would never be removed unless they became infected or broken.  perhaps you have some larger plate that mine, but I have about 10 screws in each one which support the Fibula bone attached to the mandibal.

I'd like to hear more from you on why they believe the plates should be removed.  I see my Dr again in 60 days.  I'd like to ask him about your situation, which is also mine...thanks

    all the best, Steve
