1 month out from treatment; scan tomorrow.

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

Saturday marked 1 month from the last rad day for my husband. He is doing so well, and things are really getting back to normal here. He has his first scan tomorrow, MRI, and we are praying so hard that the results are good. We don't get the results until March 3rd when we meet with the rad onc.

My husband feels great, except for some stiffness in his chin. He hasn't used his PEG in a week, and is eating almost everything except things that are crunchy. This weekend, he ate pizza, cereal, raisin bread, more Chinese food (beef with broccoli)....all sorts of things. And this morning he had a breakfast burrito at the work cafeteria. Being in Houston, we love our breakfast burritos! He has been working fulltime since Feb 1st, and is doing really well there. He told me that he never thought he would be at this point in a month. The end of treatment was so rough for him- sleeping a lot, eating only by PEG, just generally miserable. And now he is great. We are so happy. Now if we can get a NED, we will be ecstatic. My 40th birthday is Friday, and good health for my husband is the only thing I want. <3

    I'm surprised they are doing

    I'm surprised they are doing a scan at only one month out. They told us that the radiation is still working for a few months while you "cook" afterwards. My hubby had a PET scan at 3 months. But I'm sure they have their reasons for doing the MRI and it will be nice to get a look-see.

    Judging from how well your husband breezed through treatment and how well he's doing now at only one month out, it sounds like he is the model patient. I'm sure he will get an A+ on his scan, too! I'm crossing my fingers for you guys!!

    It is actually close to 5.5

    It is actually close to 5.5 weeks if you count weeks but it was 1 month on Sat, Jan 20-Feb 20. They are doing a MRI because his tongue cancer didn't show up on the CT scans before treatment. The docs find that tongue cancer shows up best on MRI. If everything is ok, they will do a repeat scan in 3 more months. 

    I am constantly amazed by all the heroes on here- patients and caregivers alike. Everyone is amazing.

    Glad to hear he is doing so well.

    When you do the MRI ask for a copy of the scan on disk before you leave,  just say you are bring it to the doctor. Then do as I always do, down load it to my computer and read what the doctor’s report has to say. I have a copy of every PET scan, MRI and CT I took. It helps me to better understand my true condition.
