Hello everyone.

I'm actually sitting in the chair right now, at UMHS.  Today is my second from last ERBITUX® (cetuximab) infusion.  My last treatement is scheduled for 2/25.  And woo hoo -- under 1.0 CEA once again.  What a wonderful update. However, I wanted to share a specific part of my update with you all, on the CSN colorectal forum.

My onc (Dr. Krauss) surprised us today with some unusal news (from him).  In the past his view on supplements was that the data simply didn't back up a lot of the reports floating around. However, h e reported today (unprompted by us) that the latest research is coming in and supporting a long-time theory that Vitamin D can help prevent colon cancer. And he has asked me to start taking vitamin D immediately.  The following are a couple of the many articles and resources available on this topic.  No doubt that I will start a Vitamin D supplement tonight and I will be consciously planning to weave more vitamin D foods into my diet in the coming weeks.

Be sure to visit my blog to see what I really attribute my over one-year remission (and counting) to.  And check out my  cea graphic as well [big smile].

Happy day to you All!!!

    Absolutely!

    hi Phil,

my pcp was on me for years to up my very low vitamin D.  I have read studies that had patients takng 10,000IU daily for two weeks prior to surgery.

maximum is 40,000Iu...but, I would not go that high.....i took 5.000 and passed a kidney stone that evening (coincidence, or did the high vitamin D load bind to the "calcium" oxalate stone....anyway)

i am taking 2,000Iu D daily, and this was the dose recommended by oncology nutritionist.

    Hurray for D

    Congrats on getting chemo

Congrats on getting chemo wrapped up and having good numbers. The reads were interesting, I figure I'm getting plenty of D with the Centrum Silver, outdoor work, and my love of cheese. It does behoove folks in the wintery places to get out when the sun shines and take in the vitamin D rich foods. Thanks, Phil.......................................Dave

He did say overloading is not

He did say overloading is not recommended. However I tested deficient and he wants to get me into normal range.

I've been taking it as well

My numbers have been low, so I started taking vitamin D a couple of years ago.

BTW, congrats on finishing up chemo and the awesome numbers!  Way to go, Traci
