Are there any runners?

i am a marathoner. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Are there any other runners who are running through treatment?  I know that I will be down and out until I recover from radical hysterectomy. I feel fine, but have a stint in my uterer that prevents strenuous activity.

Hi-I am not a cancer patient,

Hi-I am not a cancer patient, but my spouse has sarcoma and she is really too tired to walk a mile after chemotherapy.

I am not a marathon runner, the farthest I ever ran was a half marathon and now its only 5k races. But, I have been a runner for almost 40 years and at age 61 my body is telling me to stop. Running however, has been my major tool to deal with my own stress.

I cannot answer your question from a medical point of view other than you should ask your oncologist and/or surgeon about activity. Are you going to recieve any further treatment after surgery (chemotherapy or radiation?)

If you get the green light from them, and if you feel physically able I say go for it! Keep us posted! I'm rooting for you!!

PS I know this is far from what you have, but I ran with kidney stones, and even after a fractured ankle barely 2 months after surgery. To most people who don't run, they think I'm crazy, but as a runner you may understand!!

    Running

    Hi there,

I've never done a full marathon, only half’s and I used to average a 30km run week.  I also played squash 4 times a week and weight train for vanity sake :)  I'm waiting for final diagnosis of endometrial cancer and staging and a hysterectomy.  I admire you for still having the energy to run!  Since I’ve become sick, I am so fatigued that I barely have enough energy to walk to the mailbox.  It drives me crazy as physical activity has always been my form of therapy.  I'm certainly not an expert in cancer physio and physical activity but I’m sure your oncologist and doctors would agree that keeping moving is a good thing.  Don't push yourself too much but do what is comfortable and what your body can easily handle.  I would go on the principal that you will need activity for the health of your mind and body but you need to have some stored energy for healing.  Just my thoughts.

Best of luck and take care!
