Sorry if there is a duplicate. . I posted the other day and can't find the post at all.  So my question was does anyone have advice for traveling and air port security .. I have expanders with metal in them and also my port.  I have s letter from plastic surgeon about expanders and have a power port card for my port.  Has anyone had big issues flying or with security .. I also have a lymph edema sleeve for the flight..  any advice is appreciated ..

Thank you

Mary

    flying...

    Mary,

I hope you're doing well, Smile      I flew from Chicago to Florida, several times, with tissue expanders - had no security problems...(Though, I didn't have a port or lymphedema)...I guess wear your arm sleeve and do range of motion exercises as often as you can before and after your flight for the lymphedema...Hope you're going someplace fun...Cool

    No security problems

    Hi Mary,

I can't speak to lymphadema but I too traveled several times (including internationally) with expanders and never had a problem with security at all.  I too was worried that I would be pulled aside and would have to explain my situation.  Nothing of the sort happened to me.

    Hi Mary,
    I flew with a port

    Hi Mary,

I flew with a port and lymphedema sleeve. I put the sleeve on ahead of time and it was not even discussed. I told security about my port, and did not have to show the port card.

However, my daughter has a feeding tube and I was flying with a bunch of her formula in my carry-on (with Dr note) and at one airport I got through easily, but another I got the full pat down. At the time I was just 7 weeks post double mastectomy. I didn't have an issue complying with security measures, but it was a little awkward. A female security officer did the pat down and as she started I let her know about the mastectomy. So, my advice is, tell it like it is, allow plenty of time and know that security is different at each airport.

    Flew with port and expanders

Flew with port and expanders no problems.  My mum flew with arm sleeve internationally no problem there either.

I had no problems flying w/expanders

I had on a loose top and was chosen for a pat down because of it.  She said it looked to poo puffy. I LAUGHED, I was puffy from water retention. She was pretty nice, just remember being embarrassed as the area here for privacy is glasses in. Not much privacy when they are checking a chubby stomach.  But easy as could be. I also have asked since then not to go thru xray.  They are very accommodating.

    Have a good trip.
