Officially 1 year from Surgery

in Kidney Cancer #1

Today (10/21) marks my one-year anniversary from surgery for kidney cancer.  It comes at a time when many things are going on; we are 37 weeks pregnant tomorrow and work has been busy.  

But one thing that I did feel about the anniversary... Many people see a cancer diagnosis as a "life changer;" a time when one should reflect on what truly makes them happy and makes changes.  But I've realized by looking at my life that I have it pretty good.  I have a great family and friends, an amazing wife, a son on the way and we both have a decent job.  We want for nothing.  If anything, it's made me appreciate what I have that much more and not take it for granted.  But I don't think I'd change a thing.

Just remember; cancer can change your life, but don't let it change what's important.

    Wow, a year, time flies! I remember reading your posts eagerly almost a year ago when my partner got diagnosed, because your situations are very similar.

    Btw, what is the estimated arrival date for your little one? We'll keep fingers crossed :-) and you'd better keep the bag packed well in advance - you never really know when the baby decides to arrive. Alice did it 2 week earlier, we had nothing ready :-)

    It changes you. It really does.

    My husband is a different man, in an amazing way. It's almost impossible to put into words how we were both changed, in so many positive ways. We were lucky, it allowed us to improve many areas of our life and re-prioritise things. 

    Becoming a parent, also life changing. Hope we can see pictures of the little one.
