Post-lumpectomy

in Breast Cancer #1

Hey:  New to this forum.  New to cancer. Lumpectomy this past Monday 9/21/15. Reconstruction on both breasts. Axillary lymph nodes removed (about 11). Right arm is killing me! Nipples are still purple which has me concerned that the tissue is going to die. Surgeon called with path report to inform me 5 of the 11 lymph nodes tested positive. I can't break this news to my family and friends just yet! Ugh!  What's a girl to do? What am I going to do?

    Know exactly how you feel..........and what you are going to do is take a Deep Breath....and decide what your Options are.   I had 6 positive out of 19 lymph nodes after my Lumpectomy and I knew immediately that I had to have chemo and radiation.   Had to wait for healing of Lumpectomy then had a Port O Cath implanted in my chest....then started chemo....then radiation....mine turned out to be Triple Negative IDC by the way.   That was all back in 2002 and 2003.........AND I AM STILL HERE.  

    You can do this...........Hang in there............Prayers for Good Decisions .........and for Strength & Courage ..........   Glo

    I will be following the same protocol that you did. I don't know how I am going to be able to to what I do and be who I am during all of this - I literally am never sick!!!

    I am so happy that you are beyond the 5 year survival rate!!! You are an inspiration to newbies like me who really don't know what kind of a battle they are up against.  So any words of wisdom that you can impart to teach me how to "soldier on" will be greatly appreciated!

    The Battle*

    At the time of my BC Diagnosis I was working ....and having that job to go to was very good for me...especially because it was a part time job and I could work my own hours ...it kept me focused.  When I did not feel well enough to work it was ok...and I look at that as a Blessing.  The FEAR was my first thing to try to overcome...because we can't think clearly when we are afraid....I made a decision to let it go and to place it all in the hands of God. Next I made myself drink plenty of water....be sure to get my daily shower no matter how tired I might feel....and do my best to eat something...if only just a soft boiled egg and toast.   I tried very hard not to feel sorry for myself....instead of 'Why Me' ?  I would tell myself....'Why NOT me'?   It was not because I was a bad person....it was simply something bad that happened and dwelling on the 'why' was not productive.   I can't say I was totally successful with all of that...but I did the best I could, and tried to take it Day By Day.....  Prayers for Strength & Courage ....keep posting....we are all here for you.    Glo

    I have had 2 lumpectomties on

    I have had 2 lumpectomties on the same side, but never recontruction etc. JUST radiation...SO NO advice , but I am sure other here will have helpful info.
