    Hello Socal

When I read your home page I got a little confused because you said you were diagnosed with IDC and then you said  In Situ.............  Usually it is either invasive or it is not.   Mine was IDC ....either way what it is is like being HIT BY A TRUCK.   So you are in the right place to talk with others who certainly understand exactly how you are feeling.   It sounds like you have made your plans and are moving forward ....I decided to only have a Lumpectomy and mine then turned out to be Triple Negative IDC which had spread into my Lymphatic System....which meant chemo and radiation ...but the good news is I'm still here and all of that was back in 2002.   Did you get a 2nd Opinion before you made your Decision?  Many of us advise 2nd Opinions.  Fear can paralyze the mind...but if you are able to think clearly and make informed decisions the odds are totally in your favor.  Others will have to let you now about their Bilateral Mastectomies ...but all of us send you Prayers for good decisions and Prayers for Courage and for Hope.   Glo

    Glow,
    It is possible to have

    Glow,

It is possible to have IDC and DCIS at the same time. There are many more that appear to be online on breastcancer.org. There seem to be not many on this site that have both.

I think she has DCIS that became invasive.

Many women get mixed up in the diagnoses between IDC and DCIS who have it at the same time.

    Glo, thanks for your Reply.

Glo, thanks for your Reply. Originally the information was very confusing. I thought I had DCIS, then I got the written report that said IDC. With my Mom having breast cancer and passing at age 45, I had decided to have a bilateral mastectomy.  I didnt want to hear the cancer word again. It wasn't until last week that I learned that was the best decision when I found out I'm BRCA positive. meeting with ob/gyn oncologist to discuss ovaries and tubes removed as well. This is all new to me and I wish I new what the plan was for after surgery. Chemo, radiation? It's all moving so fast and slow at the same time. Looking for someone in my shoes. Thanks b
