It is with great sadness that I must inform you, on Doug's behalf, that his beloved Carole passed today just before noon.  Her final hours were peaceful, with Doug spending the night awake and next to her holding her hand.  Through the night she was still able to acknowledge his squeeze. Through yesterday she was lucid, strong, and having conversations with both Doug and me.  I was privileged to be able to witness Doug's constant caring and love for her.  I know you all share with me a deep respect for the good fight she gave, and the courage and grace she displayed in the face of death.
Services will be held in Worthington, Minnesota.  Final details are pending, and will be posted on this site.
Entry by Pam Arnold (Doug's cousin), as we await the momentary arrival of his sister Barb and brother-in-law Ted, rushing here from Missouri.

My deepest condolences to Carole's family and friends. I will miss her wisdom and courage every day. - AK

    So Sad

I was so rooting for Carole that she would be able to reach her goal of her 70th birthday but am hoping that her final days were peaceful, surrounded by her beloved Doug and other loved ones.  Thank you for sharing, Alexandra.  Sending prayers to her husband and family.

    Peace and love,

    Kelly

So sad to hear this news.

It seems like just yesterday she was beating me in Words with Friends...seriously, I could hardly win a game...she was way smart and so gracious to play endless games with me. I wish she had made it to the 4th. Doesn't it seem that we go into hospice only at the very end....3 days and it's over....why is that? Carole was so forthcoming and straightforward about her situation. I will miss her wise words and subtle humor. My most sincere condolences to her husband Doug, her family and friends.

    very sad news indeed.  May

very sad news indeed.  May God bless her husband at family as they deal with their loss.  Carole was always very supportive even with everything she had going on with her own health.
