How come? Did my cancer develope and grow for just 19 months?

What do you think ladies?

In the fall of 2013 I had Pap test, physical, ultrasound. My Gyn Doctor then did not find anything suspicious.

My fibroids were shrunk a bit and no one paid attention on my symptoms, which I recently found out were the same as for uterine cancer.

In April this year I was diagnosed with Endometrial adenocarcinoma and after the surgery in May I was told it's stage 4.

So, I'm thinking now, when they say cancer grow for years,how come my growth for 19 months.

What do you think?

    1st, let me say I am sorry about you dealing with a sstage 4 diagnosis. That has to be frightening, and beyond frustrating given the info you received in 2013.

    2nd, I am not as knowlegeable about progression as alot of the other ladies here,but my understanding is how fast the cancer grows is based alot on the type you have. I had the garden type variety that grows slow, but I think others like UPSC are more aggressive.

    That being said it is a shame your doctor wasn't more aggressive about your symptoms, but on a good note there are alot of ladies on here doing well with later stage cancer.

    Will pray you are one of them!

    cuculigata, I think we have all asked "how did this happen?"  I know I asked my doctor that question and he said they don't have that answer.  Also, while there is a 'test' for breast and cervical cancer, the mammogram and PAP, there is no test for ovarian or uterine.  You have to hope you have a doctor is aware that symptoms can be a hint that it can be one of these cancers and not dismiss it because you are too young or "it doesn't run in your family".  Even then, sadly, women die from both breast and cervical cancer even with the tests in place.

    I don't know how 'fast' cancer can grow.  That is a great question. 

    In the end, once my doctor told me that there was nothing he could identify I could have done to prevent this, I put on my "time to fight" attitude.  

    My heart aches when I hear people say they have been diagnosed with cancer - any type of cancer.  I pray they continue to find ways to kick this in the butt sooner, rather than later.
