Grade 4 Stage 4. Had IL2, Sutent and now Inylta. Lost a kidney 2 years ago.
My big problem, as I may have mentioned, is diarrhea.

Immodium doesn't stop it.

Immodium and Lomotil don't stop it.

My onc prescribed Tincture of Opium (or Laudanum as the Romantics called it) 10%, 0.6 up to 4x daily.
I can't take that much it seems to lobotomize me. This disappoints me: where is the heartbreaking poetry? However .3 x3 seems to work.
I'm 53 and 190lb.

Here's the question , How much can I take and drive safely?

Oh dear, I appLAUD you for finding something that seems to work!

However, if I read your question correctly, you are concerned about driving under the influence of this medication. I do not know.

BUT if you were stopped by a cop and he/she noticed you didn't seem "right" then maybe the cop could order a sobriety test then a blood test. Not likely, but still.  I mean, could you pass a sobriety test on this stuff?

I bet this med doesn't come with a warning about driving or using heavy machinery, does it?

And, if you have an accident and they test your blood, then you'd be responsible for driving under the influence. Unless of course, you get a good lawyer! LOL

Seems to be affecting you at full dose. But how does it affect you at 3x a day? Like I said, if you don't feel you are as alert, your reflexes not as sharp, then I wouldn't drive.

    Good question though, my dear.

Maybe others can chime in with a better answer.

Still.. I just admire and care about your well being~

    Gentle hugs, Jan

    NO! NO! NO!

please do not drive while taking a drug that lobotomizes you; if stopped, you would be given a blood test and in CA you would have a DUI.

i suspect this would be the case in other states.

I love your sense of humor

I love your sense of humor but agree with above. Stay in and try your hand at poetry instead of driving :) Hope it continues to help you!

    Experiment.

Seems to do its work at 3ml with no side effects. But then how long do the effects last?

It would be a good idea to ask the pharmacist the time duration of the drug.  for instance if it's effectiveness is for four hours, and you feel capable at four hours after taking it, I would think you could drive.  Error on the side of caution.

    I agree with a_oaklee. Ask a

I agree with a_oaklee. Ask a pharmacist what is in this drug that makes you feel like you've had a lobotomy. And if you are taking it 3-4x a day, then it remains in your system a long time. Plus it has a half life. Ask the pharmacist what the half life is too.

Remember, driving under the influence of a drug that does not keep you alert and attentive, then having an accident, is your fault. And you wouldn't want to hurt anyone else. I had to stop driving for 6 months, gave away my keys so I wouldn't be tempted, and kept that thought that it would be MY fault if I hit someone.

Sorry to be a bummer.. better safe than sorry..

    Hugs, Jan

    Warning on bottle

'Use care when operating a vehicle'

Taking half a dose during the day seems to work without the lobotomy. I can save that for when I go to bed

    Driving

I agree with the other posts see your pharmacist and talk to your doctor.  Any drug that can alter your thought and reaction time is dangerous to associate with driving.  Think of what could happen if you were to have an accident and injur or even worse a family, or children that is something I would never want on my conscience, it is not worth the risk toward you and others.

    Hi Stomps,

I agree with everyone here....talk to the pharmacist and doctor. If in doubt, don't drive! You don't want to put yourself or others in danger.

On the other hand, I am very happy that you finally found something that works for you -and hasn't hindered your sense of humor!

    Hugs

    Pharmacist

She seemed to think I should be OK if i'm careful and to lower the dose if I feel I need to.
