    Clinical Trial

    Hi Ouch,

Yes, this one looks really exciting.  I have applied to NCI in Bethesda for this and any other trial that might work for aggressive metastatic anal cancer.  Unfortunately, its a bit of a process getting in there.  They want all your medical records and all scans on disc, plus I had to send a vial of my blood and now they want 10 slides of tumor tissue, which we currently don't have.  To get the tissue I have to schedule another liver biopsy - or wait a couple of days to see if the tumor on my leg that I just had biopsied is in fact an anal cancer met.  Once they have these slides, they will review everything and get back to me in three weeks and if I "pass" I can then schedule an appointment.  That would have to be a week or so out as I have to fly from the West Coast and it would only be for a consultation initially.  Why oh why does everything involve so much waiting time?  I really feel like I am gambling with my life by sitting here for weeks on end waiting to hear back from pathologists, radiologists, and any and every other sort of -ologist, and meanwhile my liver tumors are growing and growing.

I am so glad that there are now at least a couple of trials targeting HPV associated cancers and that anal cancer sufferers are being invited in from the cold.  Immunotherapy has really good success rates for melanoma sufferers, let's hope it works as well for us.  I am really hoping to be able to report back to everyone that its a screaming success in a couple of months!

That's a lot of hoops to jump through, but I'm glad you are moving forward towards getting that appt.  Once they receive everything, I hope it won't take long.  Thank you for keeping us posted and know that I wish you all the best.
