    positivity!

I like your spring message - I missed it first time around.

Great to hear you are still doing well with a positive outlook. I bet Gordon Lightfoot was a good concert - never seen him myself though. Hope you're having a fine summer.

I had minor vocal cord surgery in April and just received a dose of I-131 after being on a BRAF targeted oral chemo drug that seems to have triggered the ability for some of my thyroid tumor cells to take up iodine after being resistant since 2010. Had uptake with a 100mc dose and I am hopeful that the radiation is killing off some of the offending cells. Grateful to be here since my papillary thyca diagnosis in 2009 (metastatic since 2010). Positivity is a powerful force.

    Hi

Yes, good to be a survivor! Pap thyca Dx in April 2009. 1.5 cm nodule, but with extrathyroidal extension and 1 lymph node involvement. Braf positive.

Left neck dissection in 2010 for 2 or 3 positive lymph nodes. 180 RAI.

2015 - watching a couple of nodes with periodic FNA and all is negative.

    V

Feeling like Thyroid Cancer is not real

I am new here. Thank you for being so positive. Actually for the most part...I am very positive. I had my Thyroid removed in April 2016 (April 1st to be exact). I had it removed due to a goiter and several nodules growing. I thought- and Drs thought...let's just take the Thyroid out. The Goiter will just grow.

A little background about me... I was born with Lymphangioma in my cheek. A tumor that was benign. I had a tumor (right atrial myxoma) growing inside my heart. I had open heart surgery. The tumor was benign. I had a tumor on my uterus-I had a hysterectomy. The tumor was benign.

Now to the Thyroid... After the resection of the Thyroid- they found a tumor in the Thyroid that was Malignant. The Surgeon that did the surgery told me not worry-Just to forget about it. And that they had gotten all the cancer. Not to give it another thought. So I told my Dr. She said that it is a big deal...and that I need have RAI. The issue I am having now is... I am supposed to have a 6 month scan. Nobody seems to really care. I get the feeling that I am just being paranoid. I guess I am just trying to follow their instructions and have it done. Maybe I should just let it go. Does anyone else feel like people do not think Thryoid Cancer is real? Just need to know that I am nuts. Thanks

    Emotions and Levothyroxine

I had papillary thyroid cancer 5 years back and have been treated for it. I had a total thyroidectomy and radioactive iodine treatment. Since then, I've been on Levothyroxine and checked every year. My Endocrinologist says my levels are fine. However, I am an emotional mess. Has anyone had to deal with the emotional rollercoaster? Is it because my thyroid is gone and this pill is what I have to keep my hormones in check? I'm only 34 and I just feel like I'm a hot mess every couple of weeks. Any advice or insight as to the struggle would help. I just want to know if this is "the norm" for someone who has normal levels.

    Is it Back?

I had my thyroid papillary carcinoma removed almost 28 years ago, and have been perking along since then.  Tonight I awakened with a pain in my jaw, and discovered using my finger in my mouth, that I have a very big lump in my right side lower jaw.  Since my docs told me long ago that if the cancer recurred it would probably be in my bones, I am wondering if that is what is going on.  My prescribed levothyroxin is at such a low level now that I'm in menopause, and I have long wondered if the dose if correct.  My original endocrinologist told me that the TSH should be kept low by a slightly elevated dose, and (since I have moved several times), my current doc thinks it's fine at this low level.  Guess I'm just writing to ease my anxiety, and wondering what will come next.  Have any of you out there had recurrences  or transmorgifications of your original thyroid cancer?  How did you deal with it? Thanks for listening in the middle of the night!!
