Mother recently diagnosed and need some input.

My mother was recently in an injury accident, which ultimately led to the knowledge of her having cancer in her liver and her lung. During the accident, she fractured the T-10 of her spine, which I hear is common with vehicle accidents, and broke five ribs. She also has MS, diabetes, and COPD4, which she is currently on oxygen for and is supposed to sleep with the CPAP. In the last 8 years, she has also had several stint procedures for her heart. While in the ER the doctors followed protocal and before performing the CT Scan, had given her dye, which is not good for her kidneys, due to diabetes. The doctors have performed the biopsy and attempting to correct her potassium levels in her kidneys, and have performed an echogram. We are still waiting on some of these results. She is 63 years old. I am wishing to get other's input on their experiences in handling, dealing, or coping with this much. I am attempting to look at this logically and not emotionally in hopes to understand things and make good decisions. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I was diagnosed with stage 4

I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer which moved to my liver and spleen. I have not gotten  any treatment, I am trusting God to heal me! The problem I am experiencing due to the cancer spreading to my liver is the fluid buildup. At first, I had to go through the Emergency Room to get fluid drained every time. I was told about the PluerX catheter. It is surgically inserted into the abdomen, with a small tube under gauze to make draining fluid easy and convenient. The surgery was extremely painful at the surgery site for the the first 48-72 hours. Thankfully, for me, that pain was only bad when I tried to sit up or move. Basically anything you do using those muscles was painful. I was awake for the surgery and the doctor expected me to go home 3 hours after the surgery. I suggest asking your mom's doctor if that is a possibility. If it is, find out if they could put her to sleep for the surgery and admit her to the hospital, overnight at the very least. The hospice nurses suspect that I was awake during the surgery because I may not have woken up if I had been put to sleep. I am not sure if that was the reason. You may want to ask about that with your mom too. May God bless you and your mom as you deal with the hard times to come!

Thank you. I appreciate the suggestions and I will ask her doctor about the PluerX catheter. I wish for God to bless you as well and for there to be no pain for you also.

    Thankfully, I do not have

Thankfully, I do not have much pain from draining fluid at home. Sometimes I notice stomach cramping when I drain the fluid while I am constipated, but that is relieved shortly after I stop draining the fluid. If that is the worst thing I go through, it is a blessd day! I hope things go that well for your mother if she gets it done too. The PluerX has been a wonderful blessing to me!
