Finished this week!

Options

My hubby rang the bell Monday, one day early... Due to snow On Tuesday. So happy to be done with treatment. Y'all were not kidding- the last 2 weeks were rough. Today is his birthday, so we are definitely celebrating putting treatment behind us and getting to the healing.  He has a checkup today with the chemo doc. I imagine it will take some time for him to get back energy and 'that spark'.

His sister has been with us for the past 10 days, it has been good for all of us to have her here. We've been snowed in all week, and might get more tomorrow. With hubby not talking (and also kind of deaf) I have enjoyed her company.  And the times when hubby and I just sit together quietly (who am I kidding- he's sleeping!) his sister is here to look after the kids. What a ride this has been.

I want to wish all of you in treatment the best of strength and healing. And thanks to the survivors who post and answer questions and offer encouragement. It has all been a huge source of support. Here's to your health!

-Elizabeth

Congratulations to both of you! I hope you guys do a happy dance or something ;)

I hope his recovery goes well. While recovery is not immediate, I hope he starts seeing progress and feeling encouraged by it.

What a blessing of a sister in law!

    Happy Birthday

to your husband Elizabeth, glad he is finished with Rads.  I remember when I came out of my last Rad treatment, I would love to say I came out in glee but in fact I came out in tears and was emotionally and physically exausted.  But that was over around August 2012 and although it was an uphill climb, it was a climb by the Grace of God I made.  So to your husband I hope he enjoys both his true birthday today and his second birthday, the birth of his new life after cancer.  God Bless you both, and cudo's to your family for being there for both of you.

Ring that BELL loud and proud............

That will be a day he will never forget. Ring that bell and the Tx are over. Remember he is still cooking for several weeks still but he will S O W L E Y get better each day. You had to just take one day at a time and only to day mattered. Well now, all the tomorrows in life mater as he gets stronger each day. We'll still keep you both in our thoughts and prayers. Make shure YOU get some well needed rest as well. God bless our caregivers.

Finished! What a great birthday gift! You've got a few more crummy weeks ahead, and then you'll see the healing begin. We'll be waiting for your husband's first NED!

    Happy Birthday

That to me sounds like the best birthday gift you can get, to ring the bell and be finished with radiation then have your birth-day all at the same time.

Joy joy joy Happy happy happy

I'm sure he felt the same as you at end of Rads... just so tired, and at the highest point of pain and exhaustion. We are both looking forward to celebrating more when that strength comes back. Thanks!

    We're looking for progress in

We're looking for progress in baby steps. Like the doctor said today- "you will not notice a difference from one day to the next, but try to look at it from one week to the next". So much encouragement comes from reading these boards!

The hardest part is now in the rearview mirror! Everyone is different but when tx stopped, i started seeing improvement within the first week. Week 5 I turned the corner with getting energy back and week 6 post tx, i had plenty of energy. If you don't already have one, you might want to get a small dry erase board for your husband to write on.
