Hmmm?

Hi all, I am 52 and never had a paps come back abnormal - most recent was in dec 2013. I went to the dr for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) because of vaginal dryness during sex. She obliged and I went on my merry way. I wore the patch religiously and it worked great. After about a month I started bleeding after not having a period for about 3 years. I returned to the dr and was told "It is coming from the uterus and sometimes going on HRT will cause that. I hope it stops for you soon." I went about my business and continued to bleed - it got heavier and heavier. I returned to the dr after a few more months and advised. She checked me and said "yep, still coming from uterus. You just had a paps in dec so I'm not concerned". I was bleeding pretty heavily and getting very depressed, lethargic, crampy, constantly exhausted, etc. I called a GYN and made an appointment. The reception said they were booked about 8 weeks out - I replied I will be dead by then. She kind of chuckled and asked what was going on - I told her what I had been going through the past six months she asked me to hold. When she came back she told me to come in the next day. The dr immediately did a biopsy, sonogram, blood work, etc and advised that I had hyperplasia - cancerous changes in the uterus. He asked what I had been given for HRT and I said estrogen. He immediately said that is what caused it stopped using it! I am currently recovering from a complete hysterectomy. They were doing additonal testing on the uterus, ovaries, cervix, and fallopian tubes - I don't have the results yet.

It's been a crazy ride but I am SO thankful that the GYN listened and took me seriously which is a whole lot more than I can say about the gen practice dr who I will no longer be seeing.

    Oh my, Dawn!
    What an ordeal.

    Oh my, Dawn!

What an ordeal.  I am glad you went with your instincts and called another gyne.  You should have your results back soon.   I hope you are recoverying well from your hysterectomy.    Is your new gyne and gyne oncologist?    I am also glad that your current GYNE recognized your symptoms and had you tested.  Hopefully, they will not find anything.   Please let us know.

    My best to you.

    Dawn

I'm so glad that you took matters into your own hands and got someone to listen to you.  Too many times, doctors don't listen or only half listen.  I pray that the results come back fine.

Thanks for coming to this board.  This is a great group.  I joined in April and it's been one of the best things ever.  I was diagnosed with UPSC in June, 2013, hysterectomy ind July, 2013 and chemo. beginning in Aug. 2013 and ending Jan. 2014.  I am currently 9 months NED (No evidence of disease).  I have used this board for a number of questions and concerns and always get a listening ear and lots of wisdom.

    Dawn you were probably anemic

Dawn you were probably anemic from losing so much blood!!  I get so mad when I hear doctors blowing off concerns brought to them and issues of non-stop bleeding?  Sounds like you made the right decision to bail on that doc!

Hopefully everything comes back normal.  Please let us know.

The diagnosis is hyperplasia and fibroids. No cancer! I know not every one is blessed to hear that. My heart goes out to those who aren't. I'm very relieved! In the past couple of years we have lost a sister, sister in law, my mom was diagnosed/treated for lymphoma, and my husband died of lung cancer I did not want to put my kids/grandkids through another loss. Thank you all for the words of encouragement! Prayers sent to you all.

    Thank you all!

As I celebrate the finding of no cancer I learn my sister in law (my husband's only survivng sister) has uterine cancer with metastis to the lymphs. She too is having a total hysterectomy soon. With blessing comes sorrow.

Sorry to hear about your sister in law.  I hope she has a low stage after her surgery.  Hopefully she will be posting for herself soon.  May she recover from her surgery quickly.  I will add her to my prayers.
